Pillars 12-Year Run Ends, Sunshine Topple Enyimba

Sunshine Stars of Akure will sit top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table till the next 24 hours after a comprehensive 5-0 mauling of El-Kanemi Warriors in a match day 25 tie in Akure on Sunday.

The massive win takes them one point above Enyimba who will host FC Taraba on Monday after rain disrupted proceedings on Sunday.

Sunshine Stars now have 46 points while Enyimba have 45 points going into Monday’s rescheduled game.

However, the high point of the match day 25 games was the 2-1 home defeat of Kano Pillars by visiting Nasarawa Utd.

The defeat ultimately ended the defending champions’ 12 years unbeaten run at home. Pillars last lost a league match at home to Julius Berger in 2003.

In Ilorin, Kwara United scratched home a 1-0 win over wasteful Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

Ismaila Gata’s 15th minute goal highlighted an afternoon of excellent football by both teams, a result which ended the Afonja Warriors’ three-match losing streak.

Dolphins held out for a 1-1 draw at Enugu Rangers after Ghanaian import Godbless Asamoah handed the Garden City side the lead 10 minutes after kick-off.

However, Evans Iyoro restored parity for the Flying Antelopes 15 minutes later.
