Pinnick: Why We Hired New Goalkeeper Trainer Pionetti

 By Johnny Edward:

The Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick, has explained succinctly that the appointment of a new goalkeeper trainer for Super Eagles ahead of the crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon on September 1 in Uyo was to avoid a 'potential catastrophy', Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr arrived the Home Eagles camp in Kano on Monday with his former goalkeeper trainer during his time as coach of Ligue 1 club OGC Nice and Burkina Faso, Italian Enrico Pionetti which raised doubts about the position and role of Alloy Agu in the team.

Pinnick who was special guest on Channels Television Programme, Sports Tonight on Wednesday said the move was not to undermine Agu but to help the team achieve its set goals.

"Every game we play we get technical reports and after the last game, we saw some defects in the goalkeeping department," Pinnick explained during the interview.

"We have a goalkeeper trainer, but like they say, two heads is better than one.

"Just as Salisu Yusuf is the head coach of the team, Gernot Rohr is also there to support him and to perfect the skills of our coaches.

"We are not undermining anyone, but to try and perfect our strategy for the games. What I know is possibly what you don't know.

"We should learn to adapt to situations when someone can give us some subtle and reliable assistance that can propel us to dream what we want to achieve. It doesn't take anything away from any individual, and I think we should be commended.

"We want to make sure we win our two games against Cameroon."

Pinnick also disclosed that the accommodation for the Super Eagles away tie in Yaounde has been sorted out.

"We don't want to leave anything t chance. As I speak we have concluded plans with an airline to lift the team to and from Yaounde for the game.

"We just need prays from all Nigerians. The defeat by South Africa is history. Now, we are looking forward to the crucial games against Cameroon and we are perfecting our acts.
