–NFF boss says Eagles coach will be confirmed soon
By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has poured cold water on reports which quoted Stephen Keshi as saying that the NFF is not discussing a new contract with him, insisting that talks are ongoing with the Big Boss.
“Very soon, we shall announce the Super Eagles coach. It is not true that we are not discussing with Stephen Keshi over a new contract. As soon as we agree terms, we shall go ahead to tell Nigerians but for now, we are still talking” Pinnick stated.
On the Africa Cup of Nations from where he just returned as a member of CAF organising Committee, the NFF boss stated that it was an interesting championship that showcased African youths and football.
He said all the countries that participated in the tournament in Equatorial Guinea showed lots of hunger and determination which were the qualities the Super Eagles lacked in the qualifiers, adding that Cote ‘d Ivoire who won the trophy deserved the victory.
He further told Complete Sports that he was so impressed with the number of young players that featured in the Afcon, adding that football belongs to the youths and he would want the Super Eagles handlers to follow suit and give the younger players the chance to play for the country.
Asked if the absence of Nigeria was felt at the Afcon, Pinnick said countries like Egypt and Morocco also missed the Afcon and it did not take the shine of the fiesta.
