Gerard Pique insists Ousmane Dembele needs to improve his all-round attitude to being a professional footballer with Barcelona. Dembele was dropped from the squad for Sunday’s clash with Real Betis due to a disciplinary matter, with the Catalans losing at home in the league for the first time in two years.

Whether or not Dembele’s absence played any part in the 4-3 reverse will never be known, but Ernesto Valverde was unhappy that the France international failed to show up for training on Thursday and took appropriate action.
The player said he was suffering from a stomach bug and did not call the club to explain as his phone had no battery, but Pique believes it is the youngster’s responsibility to get these things right.
“We have to help him realise that football is a 24-hour thing. And that sometimes it’s not just about doing [your job] but also appearing to,” he said. “We have all been young and we have all made mistakes. I am convinced he will improve.”
