By Johnny Edward:
MFM FC of Lagos can draw level on points with current leaders Plateau United with a win in Jos on Sunday as the race to become the 2016/17 NPFL champions hots up, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Olukoya Boys are three points adrift Plateau United who also can extend their lead at the summit with a win in front of their home fans.
MFM have capitalised on a recent stumble of Plateau United to close their once five-point gap down to three, and the coach of the Lagos based side,FIdelis Ilechukwu, says Sunday’s clash is a mouth-watering contest for both sides.
"I don't think there has been a bigger game that we will play this season than this," Ilechukwu told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"The winner takes it all. We must win to brighten our chances of winning the league.
MFM will be without the NPFL league top scorer Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun while Dele Ajiboye will be missing for Plateau United.
The quartet are on international duty with the home-based Super Eagles in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Sunday's clash will be the second time they will meet this season, after MFM's 2-1 victory at the Agege Stadium in March. MFM's last away match against Plateau Unied at the Rwang Pam Stadium Jos last season ended in 1-1 draw.
Third placed Akwa United will be without four of their key players for their home clash against Niger Tornadoes. Alhassan Ibrahim, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Emmanuel Ariwachukwu and the quiet but efficient Afeez Aremu.
The Promise Keepers have failed to win a game in their last three games and will be out to consolidate on their spot in the NPFL standings with five games left to play.
Akwa with 51 points from 31 matches, are three points ahead of their visitors Niger Tornadoes.
After picking a crucial point against MFM in their last game, seven time champions Enyimba of Aba will fancy their chances of recording their 16th win of the season when they host ABS at the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar.
Abia Warriors basking in the euphoria of their 4-2 win over Lobi Stars last Sunday look decent to see off a struggling Shooting Stars.
Rivers United visit fourth from bottom Remo Stars in a relegation battle on Sunday. While the Pride of Rivers are without a win in their last four games, same cannot be said of Remo Stars who are without a win in their last nine games. Stanley Eguma's side must win this game to brighten their chances of avoiding demotion at the end of the season.
Rangers International will host Sunshine Stars, El Kanemi Warriors hosting FC IfeanyiUbah and Nasarawa United FC against Lobi Stars FC.
Other fixtures include Katsina Utd taking on Wikki Tourists and Gombe United FC hosting Kano Pillars.
