Pogba: France Are Ready For Any Body In The Second Round

France midfielder Paul Pogba says his side were pleased despite their goalless draw against Ecuador on Wednesday night and reiterates that the French team do not care who they play in the Round of 16 stage.

A draw was good enough for Les Bleus to progress, yet having scored eight goals in their first two matches, many expected Didier Deschamps’ men to continue their goal-scoring form en route to the Last 16.

Yet despite 20 shots at goal – 13 on target – France could not breakdown a stubborn Ecuadorian defence as the game ended in a stalemate.

“We played well and put in the performance that was expected of us, but we didn’t get the result we deserved,” Pogba told FIFA.com.

“All we lacked was a bit of a break in front of goal, that’s all.”

The Serie A star feels the result will not halt his team’s momentum as they prepare for the knockout stages.

“I don’t think this match will have any kind of negative effect on our confidence,” he said.

“We drew, we didn’t lose. That’s an important distinction. We can be satisfied with how we did overall and with our qualification for the knockout stages.”

The talented 21-year-old is pleased with his performances so far in the tournament, and is delighted to be playing in his first Mundial proper, having won the FIFA U20 World Cup last year.

“I really wanted to play at the senior World Cup, that’s true,” he said.

“Now that’s it’s become a reality, I’m very happy. But I don’t want things to end there; I would like to keep making progress.”

France will now face African champions Nigeria in their Last 16 match-up on Monday, yet Pogba is not focussing on his opponents, but more on his own team’s progress through the competition.

“It could have been Argentina, or another team, but no matter who it is, our goals of winning and getting as far as possible in the tournament don’t change,” he said. “We’re doing everything we can to achieve those aims, ” the Juventus midfielder stated.

The Super Eagles and Le Blues game will kick off 5pm Nigerian time on Monday.
