Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has admitted his attitude “wasn’t right” in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at Brighton. France international Pogba, handed the captain’s armband for the second straight match in the absence of Antonio Valencia, was unable to inspire his team to glory as they were downed by the Seagulls.
Glenn Murray and Shane Duffy put Brighton in control before Romelu Lukaku looked to have given the visitors a foothold in the game with a close-range header.
However, Pascal Gross’ penalty on the stroke of half-time gave Chris Hughton’s men a 3-1 advantage at the break.
United did pull one back deep into second-half stoppage-time when Pogba converted his spot-kick, but the visitors ran out of time to find an equaliser and left the Amex empty-handed.
Speaking about the defeat, Pogba fronted up about his own performance whilst also slamming the overall attitude of the team.
“We lost, we did not deserve to win,” he told Sky Sports reporter Pat Davison. “The attitude we had was not like we wanted to beat them, they had more hunger than us. I put myself first, my attitude wasn’t right enough, we keep trying and pushing, and it is going to be a big lesson for us.”
