Merseyside Police are investigating death threats made to Liverpool goalkeeper, Loris Karius, following his side 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday, according to reports in England.
Karius put up an abysmal display in the game and was at fault for two of the goals conceded by the Reds in the encounter.
He threw the ball directly towards French striker Karim Benzema who scored the opener for Real Madrid and also fumbled a shot from substitute Gareth Bale, which resulted in the third goal.
The German, 24, has been the focus of hundreds of threats and hate messages on social media after the game.
Posts from Liverpool fans included a comment saying, “I’ll murder your girl I’ll murder your girl”.
Others said his “sons deserve to die of cancer” and “I hope your whole family dies”.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police told The Telegraph officers were investigating the vile abuse.
“The force takes social media posts of this nature extremely seriously and any offences identified will be investigated,” stated the spokeswoman.

Please he should be left alone, even though he performed poorly but I think it is as a result of the fact that Salah was no more in the game, he lost confidence. The person to be threatened is Ramos for injuring Sarah.
No one should be threatened. It’s just a game.
That is unsportsmanlike behaviour, it happens to the very best. He is human for crying out loud, the game has been won and lost therefore move on Loosepool fans (pun intended), learn from it and come back strong. Liverpool did well to have reached the UC finals in the first year under their new manager. Build on and continue on that trajectory.
However IMO, even with MO in the field RM may still go home victorious. You playing against back to back UC champions that has grown in leso and bounds in strengths in all aspects and areas and has mastered the art of playing together as one indivisible entity as a team. In all fairness Liverpool fans should be proud of loosing just one game i.e the finals (stand to be corrected).

Get behind your team, learn from your mistakes, success doesn’t come overnight, adversity doesn’t change the outcome of that match learn! Learn!! Learn!!! From it accept it and Lifting a major trophy isn’t far away only if you believe.
move on liverpool, u can still do better
He was a bundle of nerves all through the match. I was not surprised at his horrific show.
I guess Nigerians will start giving Akpeyi à breeding space, seeing what happened on Saturday.Goalkeeping has its good and bad days!Errors dont make these goalkeepers bad goalkeepers. Its what they dont pray for!Nigérians should learn from the response of many of the English fans! They were behind Lotus Karius, telling him to forget d past and move on!We should not be surprised he will one day become d best goalkeeper in the world!
My brother, his poor performance on the night still doesn’t excuse death threats which is, in fact the focus of the article.
Football fans should know where and when to draw the line and the kind of behaviour that the British police are investigating above should be met with a robust response.
Do you remember Andres Escober?
I have huge sympathy for Goalkeepers and try to be measured and even sympathetic when offering a critique of their performance (although it’s hard sometimes).
Some Nigerian fans find it hard to get over mistakes of Goalkeepers like Chigozie Agbim and Daniel Akpeyi with poisonous critisms any time those names are even mentioned – haba!
The truth is, all Goalkeepers are susceptible to mistakes.
What do the following high quality (some world class) Goalkeepers have in common?
Farbien Barthez, David James, Heurello Gomrez, Vincent Enyeama and Rustu Recber.
Answer: they have all – at one time or the other – made costly mistakes in big matches.
This is not the time to critise Karius.
Correction ***this is not the time to criticise Karius***
