The victorious Golden Eaglets will arrive Abuja on Wednesday after conquering the world at the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, and President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to host the team on arrival.
The Kelechi Nwakali captained side defeated Mali 2-0 in an all-African final in the wee hours of Monday, thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Funsho Bamgboye. It's the fifth time Nigeria have won the global cadet diadem.
The team led by Emmanuel Amuneke departed Santiago on Monday for Nigeria aboard Emirates Airline, a top official of the Nigerian Football Federation disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com.
Golden Eaglets will be hosted by the President Muhammadu Buhari who reportedly awaits their triumphant return.
“The team will arrive in Abuja on Wednesday aboard Emirates, and will be hosted by the President,” our source disclosed.
Also expecting the team is the Speaker of the House of Representatives,Yakubu Dogara.
Dogara wrote via his Twitter handle @doyakubu: “You have made us proud and proved your mettle. We await your return with the trophy.”
