Pulis Delighted With Ideye, Teammates’ Display Vs Stoke

West Brom manager has hailed Brown Ideye and his teammates for their impressive display in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Stoke City.

The Baggies lost to local rivals Aston Villa in both the Premier League and FA Cup last week, but responded to beat Pulis’s former club at The Hawthorns with Ideye netting the winner.

“It was a very good performance – the disappointing thing is that we didn’t get a second goal,” Pulis told BBC Sport.

“The players have been through the mill the past couple of weeks with two bad results against Villa, albeit not bad performances. This was a big win for the supporters after having to take that on the chin.”

The striker, who so nearly left the club in the January transfer window, headed home a Craig Gardner cross with less than 20 minutes on the clock at The Hawthorns.

Ideye thought he had scored his second of the game before the interval when he tapped in after Begovic had spilled the ball, but the goal-scorer was offside when the initial ball was played forward.

Tony Pulis’ side have now won four of their last five home games as the Baggies continue to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

The loss put an end to a three- match winning run in trhe league Stoke City, who were second best before the break, but improved after half-time.
