Nigeria’s top ranked table tennis star, Aruna Quadri, has dedicated his ITTF Nigerian Open men’s singles title to Lagos fans for their unflinching support to him during the competition, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Quadri defeated Frenchman Antoine Hachard 4-2 (11-13, 11-3, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-7) to clinch the title for the first time in the history of the competition.
“I trained very hard before the tournament to ensure that I didn’t disappoint my fans,” Quadri told the official website of the ITTF.
“It would have been annoying and disappointing if I failed my fans that have come from far and wide to support me during this tournament. You can see their attitude all through the match.
“They did not relent in their effort to spur me even when I lost points, they kept supporting me and that means a lot to me. With all the support that I got today from the fans, this title is for them because they kept on supporting me all through.”
