Quina Targets Watford First-Team

Domingos Quina has revealed he chose to join Watford in order to boost his chances of playing regular first-team football. The Portugal under-20 international joined the Hornets from West Ham for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day, but many people were surprised by his decision to move to Vicarage Road, as he was linked with the likes of

Barcelona and Real Madrid earlier in the summer.

The 18-year-old, who originally moved to England when he joined Chelsea’s youth set-up in 2013, has now confirmed he chose to join Watford as he feels they will give him the best opportunity to play regular first-team football.

“I came to Chelsea from Portugal when I was 12 and left them to join West Ham in 2016 where I was looking for chances in the first-team,” Quina told the club website. “That didn’t happen so I have moved on and I think I will get better chances to make it in the first-team and improve myself.

“I have been playing for the Under-23s for three years in a row now and I think it is the time to move on, play in the first-team and crack on. I am really happy and I have come here to play for the first-team. That is the main reason I came here.”

Quina did not feature in Watford’s opening match of the season against Brighton last weekend, but he could make his debut when Javi Gracia’s side travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley this Sunday.
