Radwanska Announces Retirement

Former world number two Agnieszka Radwanska has announced her retirement from tennis with immediate effect. The 29-year-old, who reached the final of Wimbledon in 2012, enjoyed a successful career, winning 20 titles on the WTA Tour, while she ended every season between 2008 and 2016 inside the top 15 of the world rankings.

However, the Pole has not won a title since her triumph at the China Open in 2016 and she has slipped down to 75th in the latest world rankings as a result.

Radwanska, who first turned professional in 2005, admits the time has now come for her to end her career, as she feels her body can no longer cope with the rigours of the professional tour.

“Unfortunately I am no longer able to train and play the way I used to, and recently my body can’t live up to my expectations,” Radwanska was quoted as saying by the BBC. “Taking into consideration my health and the heavy burdens of professional tennis, I have to concede that I’m not able to push my body to the limits required.”
