Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic admits he is close to committing his future to the club and signing a new contract. The Croatian has been with Barcelona since 2014 after joining from Sevilla and has been a virtual ever present in the middle of the park since then.
His current contract with Barcelona expires in 2021, though the 30-year-old has been keen to pen a new deal with the club ever since a reported approach from Paris Saint-Germain was rebuffed.
Rakitic made clear his plans to stay last week and has now admitted he is on the verge of agreeing fresh terms, which would take him to near the end of his career.
“It will arrive soon, we are not in a hurry,” Rakitic told Diario Sport. “The club looks after its players and they know that I feel at home here, so I believe I will receive a phone call soon.”
Rakitic is now regarded as one of the senior men in the Barcelona midfield following club legend Andre Iniesta’s departure at the end of last season.
