Midfielder Joe Ralls feels it is vital that Cardiff stay in games for as long as possible if they are to avoid relegation. The Bluebirds were installed as most people’s favourites for the drop when they secured a place in the Premier League and have yet to win a match this season.
The Welsh outfit sit 17th in the standings with a couple of draws behind them but lost 4-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
That result was no disgrace given the fact that Maurizio Sarri’s men have won all five of their top-flight contests this term, and Ralls admits there were pleasing aspects to the defeat.
“I thought we played well in periods of the game and always had a chance,” he said. “I think we’re quite frustrated really. Obviously goals change it and the third one sort of killed us but we can take positives for being in the game for so long.”
It will be tough for Neil Warnock’s side to compete with the big boys this term and Ralls believes that the longer City can stay on level terms in matches, the more chance they have of pulling off the odd victory.
“We’ve got to try and stay in it right the way through and hopefully get a little chance at the end,” he added. “We’ve got positives to take from both games (Arsenal and Chelsea). We just need to stay in the game, like I say, and stay strong.”
