Enugu Rangers maintained their top position in the Nigeria Professional Football League table despite going down to a 3-1 defeat to Rivers United on Sunday, reports
Former Bayelsa United forward Bernard Ovoke started the rout, converting from the spot on 17 minutes.
Christian Weli doubled Rivers United’s lead in the 21st minute.
Ovoke scored his second of the game on the stroke of half time.
Rangers halved the deficit two minutes after the restart when Rivers United defender, Gabriel Olalekan, turned the ball into his own net.
Defending champions Enyimba were held to a 2-2 draw by Lobi Stars in Umuahia.
Abu Azeez opened scoring for the hosts in the 28th minute.
Nanem Imenger fired home the equalizing goal a minute before the break.
The home fans were stunned in the 52nd minute when Lobi Stars defender Solomon Kwambe slotted the ball into the net.
Captain Chinedu Udoji saved the day for Enyimba when he levelled scores five minutes before the end of the game.
Former champion, Kano Pillars shocked Sunshine Stars 1-0 in Akure with Adamu Mohammed getting the goal five minutes from time.
Shooting Stars and Plateau United also played out a 2-2 draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
Joshua Obaje shocked the home fans when he smashed the ball home in the 27th minute.
3SC however equalized five minutes later through Tope Orelope who converted from the spot.
The Oluyole Warlords went into the lead for the first time in the game in the 37th minute through Tope Orelope.
Substitute Ibeh Johnson dragged the visitors back into the game grabbing the leveller in the 74th minute.

At the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, Bolaji Adeyemo scored the winner 15 minutes from time as Niger Tornadoes beat visiting El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0.
