Claudio Ranieri is hoping that Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic can return to haunt his former club Newcastle in Saturday’s clash. The Cottagers’ boss will take his side to St James’ Park attempting to pick up a win in order to avoid them being bottom of the Premier League at Christmas, which usually results in relegation at the end of the season.

Leading the line for the Londoners will be Serbia international, Mitrovic, who was sold by Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez in the summer after he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Craven Cottage in the second half of last season.
The forward scored 17 goals in 72 appearances on Tyneside but was clearly not in the plans of Benitez and Ranieri is looking for him to prove the Spaniard was wrong to let him go. “I hope when a player goes back to a previous club he wants to show something more,” said Ranieri in Thursday’s press conference.
“At Newcastle he didn’t do a good job – it’s not easy to adapt to English football – but I hope he has an outstanding match.”
