Marcus Rashford is reportedly refusing to allow Manchester United to exert any pressure on talks over a new contract extension. The England striker has less than two years left on his present £75,000-per-week package at Old Trafford and his advisers have been taking stock of his situation since the turn of the year.
It’s understood the club want to tie down the long-term future of the 20-year-old but are becoming increasingly fearful of a potential contract stand-off.
Reports surfaced this week that Rashford wants to make it work at United and show boss Jose Mourinho he can take his game to the next level this season.
The academy graduate is in no rush to pen new terms however, and sources close to the player say he has become frustrated at not getting enough opportunities playing as a main striker as opposed to being regularly shunted out wide last term by his manager.
United are having to accept it is not just a question of throwing more money at the starlet, adding to the delay in extending his deal.
Mourinho is said to be happy with the attitude of the Manchester-born youngster but there is still a feeling behind the scenes that the Portuguese tactician doesn’t believe he can be trusted as pure striker.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
