Real Madrid Stunned 1-0 By Alaves As Winless Streak Extends To 4 Games

Manu Garcia’s last-gasp header was all Deportivo Alaves needed to claim a dramatic 1-0 win over Real Madrid a Spanish La Liga encounter on Saturday.

Garcia capitalised on a poor defending from Real Madrid to nod home from close range to hand Alaves their first La Liga win over Real Madrid since 1931.

The defeat means Real Madrid have lost three of their last four fixtures in all competitions and have also failed to score a goal in their last three La Liga matches for the first time since March 2002.

Madrid started the encounter on a good note Karim Benzema and Dani Ceballos both forcing Fernando Pacheco in goal for Alaves into making good saves in the opening minutes of the encounter.

Benzema again went close in the ninth minute, with Ximo Navarro making a desperate goal-line clearance to deny the Frenchman a goal.

In the second half, Toni Kroos, made a crucial interception to deny Ibai Gomez a goal in the 60th minute.

Ruben Duarte also tried his luck with a long-range shot as Alaves’ pressure continued.
Julen Lopetegui brought on Marco Asensio late on but it was Alaves who grabbed the winner with the last action of the game.

Jony Rodriguez’s looping corner found Ruben Sobrino unmarked at the far post, and he had the presence of mind to head the ball back across goal, with Garcia on hand to secure a famous victory.

Alaves now sit in third place just behind Real Madrid on goal difference.

Despite the defeat, Real are still joint top of the standings with 14 points after eight games but they could drop down if leaders Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid all win on Sunday.
