Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo are not expecting to be as dominant at Singapore this weekend as Red Bull were at Monaco in May. Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit is comparable to the streets of Monte Carlo, where Red Bull outperformed their Formula One rivals earlier this season.
But Ricciardo, who was the fastest in all the sessions in Monaco and won the race, expects Ferrari to be the strongest this weekend.
“I think Ferrari has improved since Monaco, we have also improved, but not as much as them,” the Australian told RaceFans.net. “We were the fastest in Monaco, but in Singapore it’s a bit different, so I think Ferrari is the favourite, but we’re going to see.”
Verstappen started 20th on the grid in Monaco after taking a 15-place grid penalty but climbed up through the field to finish ninth.
He too remains pessimistic about the chances of Red Bull’s package being so far ahead of their rivals this weekend.
“I think it will never be as good as in Monaco,” he said. “But we will be closer to it and then with a safety car there will be a lot of possibilities, the pole position will be somewhat more difficult, because our competitors have made great strides with their packages.
“There are also a few straights in Singapore where they can benefit, but if we can sit on three or four tenths on Saturday, we’ll have done well.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
