Completesportsnigeria.com can exclusively reveal the real reasons why Gernot Rohr dropped Alanyaspor defender Kenneth Omeruo from the Super Eagles team that lost 2-0 to South Africa in last Saturday's 2019 AFCOn qualifier against South Africa in Uyo.
An impeccable source in the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committiee revealed that the German tactician was not convinced the Alanyaspor loanee from Chelsea was psychologically ready to face Tokelo Rantie who gave the 24 year old a torrid time at the same venue in 2014.
On a day when Nigeria badly needed a win, Omeruo endured a miserable afternoon, with Rantie scoring twice as the Super Eagles could only force a 2-2 draw at home to South Africa which dashed their hopes of qualifying for the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.
"Rohr opted to keep faith with the new boys in camp at the expense of some experienced players in the team," the source told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"A player like Omeruo should have played in that game ahead of Chidozie Awaziem, but Rohr wasn't satisfied with him due to his past duel with Rantie who still scored the opener against Nigeria last Saturday.
"That's why after the Technical Committee meeting it was resolved that the team needs a psychologist and will be meeting frequently with the Committee unlike before."
