Rivers United captain, Austine Festus says the side will benefit immensely from their training tour of Spain ahead of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season and their CAF Champions League campaign, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Pride of Rivers State are currently on a 10-day training tour of the European country as part of their preparations for the new season.
Stanley Eguma's men finished in second position in the NPFL table last season and recently won the Super- Four Tournament in Enugu.
Aside from looking to wrestle the league crown from Enugu Rangers next season, the Port Harcourt- based side will also attempt to make history by becoming the second team from Nigeria, after two time champions Enyimba, to win the CAF Champions League title.
And the former Nigeria youth international reckoned the Spain tour experience will be crucial for the club's future challenges.
"We have gained a lot from this tour, as it has exposed us to better training facilities," the former Bendel Insurance centre-back informed Completesportsnigeria.com.
"We also learnt a lot from the first friendly match we played against Villareal and we also hope to pick one or two things from the remaining games.
"The team is in good shape at the moment and I can confidently say we will surpass our achievement next season."
Rivers United will take on Spanish Segunda Division B side, CD Roda in their second friendly of the tour on Monday.
