Rivers United arrived in Madrid Spain on Tuesday afternoon in top team morale, for the final round of their pre-season exercise, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The contingent of 18 players and eight officials touched down at the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport at exactly 2:35pm local time on Tuesday.
The team had a brief stop-over in Frankfurt, Germany at 5:20am local time following a six hour, ten minute flight that began at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
While in Madrid, the Pride of Rivers will play friendly matches against a La Liga club, while tuneup games have also been lined up against Segunda B clubs; Levante, Union Deportiva II and Club Deportivo Alcoyano.
The Rivers United squad will also attend training sessions of a La Liga club (as well as the sessions of the youth teams of the club).
They will also embark on a guided tour to the storied home of reigning European champions, Real Madrid, Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
The technical crew of the club led by manager, Stanley Eguma is also expected to be huge beneficiaries of the programme as crash course on coaching methodology has also been arranged with the La Liga club.
The Rivers United contingent is due back in Nigeria on Thursday, December 22.
The team which won the the recently concluded Nigeria Professional Football League Super-Four Tournament will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next year.
