Rivers United have started preparations for the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season, reports Completeaportsnigeria.com.
The pre- season exercise started on Tuesday morning with players and officials converging at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium for the first training session, Rivers United Media said in a press release on Tuesday.
Head coach of the side, Stanley Eguma, was however absent from the exercise which was conducted by coach Willy Udube.
The club announced on Monday that they will retain 21 players from last season and have also placed 16 in the transfer market.
They are also planning to embark on a training tour of Spain before the start of the season and also hope to engage clubs from Ghana, Cote d'lvoire and Togo in friendly games.
Rivers United finished second Enugu Rangers in the NPFL last season.
