Nollywood superstar Richard Mofe Damijo has spoken to Completesportsnigeria.com on what will be his greatest sporting moments in Nigerian history as the country celebrates 55 years of Independence.
Damijo who has acted in hordes of Nigerian films gives two milestones that will make him feel fulfilled as a Nigerian sports follower.
“My greatest sporting moment has not come. It’s the day Nigeria will play the FIFA World Cup final, not even win.
“Aside from football, I also look forward to the day a Nigerian will win 100 meters gold in athletics at the Olympics,” the man popularly known as RMD told Completesportsnigeria.com.
Speaking on how the government of President Mohammadu Buhari can leverage on sports for national development and youth empowerment, Damijo gives his blueprint and also recommends rewards for exceptional sports stars.
“President Buhari should expand his reach and embrace all areas and not just football. Let the other sports also have a sense of support and appreciation,” RMD added.
“And he shouldn’t give money gifts to exceptional athletes. That tradition should stop.
“Mr President can give national awards to the men and women who represent Nigeria at sporting events, despite the prevalent poverty level in a third-world country like Nigeria.”
