Robshaw Latest To Be Ruled Out For England

Harlequins have announced Chris Robshaw has suffered a knee injury that rules him out of England’s autumn internationals. The flanker is the latest important player to be ruled out of Eddie Jones’ squad for the upcoming games next month against South Africa, New Zealand, Japan and Australia with reports saying he is likely to be out for eight weeks following surgery.

Harlequins Head of Rugby Paul Gustard said in a statement: “We are hugely disappointed to lose Chris for a short period of time while he recovers from this injury.

“Not least because he has been one of our standout performers across our first seven games this season and also because this period in the calendar provides the opportunity to represent England in the autumn internationals and I am sure he would have featured strongly in Eddie Jones’ plans for those matches.”

The news that former skipper Robshaw will miss the autumn games follows on from Monday’s announcement that Saracens star Billy Vunipola is also out of the Red Rose’s matches next month as he needs an operation on a fractured arm.

Lock Joe Launchbury had previously been ruled out through injury, while Nathan Hughes is facing suspension as Jones’ options become ever-more limited.
