Rodolfo Zapata: “I Expected More From USA, African Teams”

Argentine-born USA-based coach, Rodolfo Zapata talks to “The Secret Footballer” about Argentinian loss to Germany in the Brazil 2014 final.

You don’t need to rush to internet search engines to find out the identity of 48-year-old Rolo Zapata. He is well known in Africa for managing Nigeria Premier League side Sunshine Stars FC, as well as South Africa Mpumalanga Black Aces FC.

“It was quite equal game. Argentina played very good, but Germany deserved to win.  We had a lot of chances and should have scored at least one of them. In football, if you don’t score then the opposition will,” he said.

“The German FA program didn’t start last year. It’s something that has been in the making for the last ten years.  These players have played together at international youth level and under-21 level.  Now they’re world champions!  Continuity and consistency are particularly important to create a winning team,” Rodolfo Zapata said.

“The failures of this World Cup, without doubt, were Brazil, Italy, Spain and England.  Particularly, I also expected more from USA and African teams.  All of them looked easy to predict. They were old fashioned tactically and boring teams.  They need to revamp their squads and renew their ideas or improve on chosen projects,” the Argentinian coach said.

Currently, Rodolfo Zapata is coaching NJ Youth Soccer Association.
