By Dare Esan: Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is confident Hull City full-back Ola Aina will offer recuperating Elderson Echiejile good competition for the left-back role ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Rohr who is set to hand Aina his third international cap against Argentina on Tuesday in Krasnodar, Russia was pleased with the 21-year-old’s showing against Algeria.
“It’s good for the competition for Elderson Echiejile when you want to progress you need two good players in each position,” Rohr told Completesportnigeria.com, referring to Aina.
“I’m happy we already have this friendly against Argentina. It is wonderful to play against some of the best players in the world.
“We are unbeaten in the qualifiers but now we need to work harder ahead of Tuesday. But it’s going to be tough because we have just two days to prepare for it.”

Pls stop diz tin o
Jst replace him one tym
He is far better than Echiejile.
You didn’t watch the game
It’s because of Mahrez influence And the bad pitch…You can’t blame him for that.,
Aina is far better than Echiejile..
Pls find a natural left back, aina isn’t one either.
Yes you are right bro
But he was doing a good job at the left back
Aina needs to grow and gel fast into the team. Was shaky against clueless Algeria
He simply nullified all threats posed by Riyad Mahrez, that’s why he can’t attack because of Riyad Mahrez pace and fear of being exposed. That’s why Algeria even switch attack to the other wing.
What about Amuzie at the last Olympics (Brazil)
He’s now at Nantes in France…Claudio Ranieri(I think you’ll know him)..He plays there As a central defender,he’s always in the squad.
I think that guy should get a call as well
amuzie is not playing in france. He plays in swizerland for lugano
Stanley amuzie
Keyness Leo Mwenelupembe nice one
pls let’s keep managing echiejile ooo…..ola oina is still impriving. I wonder y d coach keep inviting obuehi n keeping on the bench. the guy must b regreting his decision on playing for naija. idowu is on the radar too. am sure idowu will get a chance ahead of obuehi, which is very bad
Aina has the potential to grow into a great right fullback who can also spare in the left fullback position, but comparing him to Echiejile now is simply childish.
Fact is, Echiejille wasn’t really bad in his recent outings but only failed to live up to the high standards he’d set for himself in the past. Despite this he’s still the best available in that position. I believe with increased game time in his club he’ll get back to his best before the World Cup. Hopefully in the nearest future, guys like Aina, Stanley Amuzie and Kingsley Madu will improve enough to be better than the best of Echiejille.
Well! As for me, I think he’s still there.
With the wealth of experience he’s had, we can’t throw him away now. Because there’s currently no other to fully replace him.
Ola is good, but at the moment he’s too young for a world cup.
hmm for me i will go with aina.. because he got the skills and energy
