Rohr Assures Super Eagles Won’t Be Goal-Shy In Russia

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is confident that his team’s attack which misfired in recent games will come good at the World Cup in Russia and score many goals, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

“The Super Eagles will overcome whatever problems they’re having presently and do well at the world Cup. I know we are lacking in some areas presently as shown in recent matches against Poland and Serbia, but we shall sort all that out before the world cup

“The friendly matches are meant to prepare for world cup and correct any noticeable flaws and pick the best players who fit into my philosophy and tactics. I have seen two games and I have another three to play and pick my team for Russia,” Rohr said.

Zenith Ziva

He continued: “We know the problems of the team and we shall try to correct them and try to play on the weakness of world cup opponents. We shall score goals in Russia and try to stop opponents from scoring. We have to work real hard to qualify from our group.”

The Franco-German further revealed that by the time the Super Eagles play the friendly game against England, Nigerians would be able to get a glimpse of what to expect at the world cup in Russia.

I do believe rohr. the area that should be looked into should be the striking area and just one experience goal keeper

  • Bomboy 3 years ago

    Thank u sir. I believe.

  • Raphael Azubuike 3 years ago

Tha area of comcern for me is our midfield, we need good ball passers to circulate the ball well and give our attackers balls in positions where they can be dangerous.

  • Adeniyi 3 years ago

He should call up Adi from the MLS he is a complete striker to support Ighalo

  • Chima E Samuels 3 years ago

Mr Rohr what is the way forward we need a real No9. There will be no excuse at the world cup if you want Nigeria to rely on Ighalo for goals

  • Israel Nwanosike 3 years ago

Super Eagles Coach & handlers should endeavour to comb all parts of the world so as to pick our best players wherever they are. This is what other nations coming to the same world cup do. There’s noticeable concern in our defense, they need to tighten it up to do well. Our strike force is potent.

  • You have spoken well Chima,One problem with NFF and the coach is their negligence to do the right thing at the right time. We all love Ighalo but Invite more striker to the team to support Ighalo especially someone like farnendo Adi. We need sharp strikers.

  • i dont know how many of us have seen a young guy call vinicius(dominic vinicius i think) play before.watched him coupled of times few years back in Denmark, learnt that he’s somewhere in china. that guy is a complete striker, reminds me of Adriano of Brazil. The guy does not have a good manager else he ought to be playing in top league,he’s a bit slow but with clinical training, smoothing edges for him,he ‘ll surely beat most of our present attackers.Adi,bonaventure(also deadly) and desser are not bad for one month camping period. ighalo is casual, preferred a direct ball and cant be relied upon to squizz honey from the rock.

Someone dare call a coach who got us out of a group of Cameroun, Algeria and Zambia with a game to spare mediocre. What some people smoke before posting on this site, only God knows.

  • my preferred squad for super eagles is
    goalkeepers: uzoho alampasu ezenwa
defenders:balogun ekong ebuehi idowu Aina eze shehu
midfielders:ndidi Mikel iwobi Etebo obi ogu
attackers:moses, ighalo, dessers, Samuel Kalu, Simon, iheanacho, onyekuru

We dont want ur ambrose.. thank u. Nigeria would move forward.

  • We are talking about best players, some people are talking nonsence, we need best players like osimhen , nwakali , onyekuru , they are talking negative

  • Let’s just believe and support the team, Eagles will do well in Russia..

  • Chima E Samuels 3 years ago

Plenty talk people who are saying Rohr is on the right path because we qualified for the world cup I have just one question are we ready to face the likes of Germany, France or even Serbia and see hit one shot on target… LMAO guys let us stop dreaming and start drumming wake up for this man let him tell us his plans on who and who will the real 9s are that will deliver us the goal and terror at the world cup. How many goals has ighalo scored so far in the less fancied China guys let us wake up the world cup is just few months away and our oyinbo is playing hide and seek… chicken no dey born dog

  • Chima E Samuels 3 years ago

Whoever is hopeful let us wait and see after the world cup no wonder people can actually vote for Bhuari again and again… no be everybody be aboki for this forum. Let the ones who have eyes speak their mind before the mediocre minds blow their horn. I will be live at Russia when the likes Croatia will humble us if this mistakes are not fixed

  • Oyidave 3 years ago

complains here and there, you want the coach to tell you his plans for Russia 2018 were you the one that contracted him for super eagles job? You guys should learn to be appreciative instead of descriminative n condeming. The coach is not a fool he knows his job, whatever he is doin now is to have a squade dat can blend and deliver in Russia.Be patient

  • Franklin 3 years ago

To me intricate and well panned plan shd be put in place in order 4 d team 2 b a daring one in the forth coming mundial. Also we shd guard against overhauling d team cos dere is no time 4 blending. Other world cup going team(serious minded ones) are already sure of their 1st 15 players if not more.

  • when last did osimhen score
Samuel Kali on current form is better than nwakali. if don’t watch football. keep quiet

  • Pls coach try Joseph Akpala….

  • I am still surprised that people are saying that there is no competition for Ighalo in the team; there is.

The other attackers currently in the team are: Aaron Samuel, Brown Ideye and Olanrewaju Kayode.

Others in the present team who can also play as a number 9 are: iheanacho, Musa and Iwobi .

In this day and age, most left or right sided attacking forward can also play centre forward.

We are way too close to the world cup to be talking about inviting fresh faces; that is just a cheap option that has never been known to work.

Let the coach camp, drill blend and thoroughly prepare the current team for the task ahead

  • Sunnyb 3 years ago

Marquis, I’m surprised ur likes voted for Buhari and will still do it again, qualifying in Africa and playing in the World Cup are two different things Bro.trust me if ur coach goes to world with this current squad, u guys would humiliated.

  • Pablo9ja 3 years ago

@Chima e Samuels, @Obj, @Sanni Abdurahman, and good people of like minds, greetings.
U guys have sounded very well & demonstrated ur belief in SE, but u have not failed to spot the danger ahead. Ppl can’t see what we see.
The team will do well only on the bases that it corrects the major flaws.
@kingmaker has bn saying so, but some think they love Super Eagles bether. Its not true.
    What are these flaws?
    1) Goalkeeping: Francis Uzoho cant stop Messi, Ronaldo, Isco, Mbappe etc. He has no experience.
    2) Central Striker: There is no natural striker in the team. Ighalo does not score goals. 4/14 is Fail.
For Eagles to do well it must have additional striker of class. Eg. Cyriel Dessers, Adi or Aaron.
Ejide or Ayenugba are experienced goalkeepers. At least one must be invited for Uzoho to deputize for.
If Rohr cannot declare these changes we WON’T cross first round.
Some ignorant ppl are angry to hear the truth so they are insulting everybody who calls for reinforcement of our attacking line or replacement of Ighalo.
    World Cup is not AFCON.
Did Ighalo pay them for these? Or, is it Ighalo writing from China under these names? It is not a do or die matter. Let Ighalo be a back up striker for Adi, Dessers or Ajayi.

  • Chima E Samuels 3 years ago

Well said Pablo how many teams in our group are taking 4 goals China striker to WC18. Sometimes I wonder why people can’t see clear anyway the reality is that we are going to make numbers and pray for luck or God of soccer as usual hahaha

  • Hmm…I must confess.. Pple clamouring for another striker, they r right. Pple also sticking with rohr, they r right too.
I believe so much in rohr, though, I don’t know y. Ighalo is weak no doubt but rohr has been trying too. He sees wat we see too.
Without Mikel, he’ s been trying players…Etebo, Joel, Iheanacho, iwobi etc. I know one day, he’ ll get it right. Mikel can’t play forever. For ighalo, he has tried kayode, Iheanacho, ideye, success, musa, osimhen, Ajayi etc and d funniest thing is…he depends soo much on Nigerians like agali and co. He is straight with them, he works on their feed backs..and dats a real problem. I know with time, he’ll get it right. Recently… He has condemned d strikers himself so..let’s wait and see.

    • OLUSEGUN Olofin 3 years ago

We need as many, strikers as possible. Infact we need a striker who is strong enough to rattle an opponent in his field . Ighalo is cool , nevertheless we need junior Ajayi, Olanrewaju Kayode, and whoever has thw hunger for goals and is crazy enough to make the team win with goals .

We also need midfielders esp the number 10 position . Mikel is ok. Nevertheless another guy of his calibre is needed .looking at the two friendly matches that was played last month , it’s clear that much work really needs to be done . The midfield was a mess . Rohr I hope he’s reading this .

We are not in a World Cup for jamborees, but to exceed our expectations . We need to go farther than the round of 16 and it’s all about the hunger and the determination. Our going further even if it means winning the cup will change the way Africa is being looked at . This is what I hope NFF should put this into the sub consciousness of our players .

  • as for me ighalo is not good, iheanacho is better than him

I wish obafemi Martin’s is fit

  • Philip Id 3 years ago

Raheem Sterling and Ahmed Musa:Both have pace, can play wing and attack and are dangerous with their speed giving defenders nightmares. But Musa lacks the HEAD and need to be more intelligent in using balls, running to space and scoring.

    • OLUSEGUN Olofin 3 years ago

Need to clear things up . What makes a good winger is the ability to give accurate pull outs and be unpredictable on the field of play . Segun Odegbami,Finidi George, Luiz Figo , David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo are by far the best wingers the world has ever seen . Ahmed Musa has speed and pace but doesn’t have the attributes of a accurate winger . I’d rather make him a supporting striker or a super sub . I’d say again let super eagles look for wingers . Apart from Victor Moses and Moses Simon who have bern impressive so far , We need Imoh Ezekiel to try out for rhat role . After all he did well during the Olympics . Also we need another left winger .

Please Nigerians i don’t know how to reach out to Nigeria football association(NFA) or Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr about this Nigeria guy called Dominic Vinícius Eberechukwu Uzoukwu he plays in Beijing Enterprises, i have watch this guy so many times he is a powerful and dangerous Finisher that can finish any defender at any given time, and he is willing to play for Nigeria. We should call him to help ighalo for world cup please

  • Ejide is our solution like it or not,,,non of this guys shouting no ejide hv never watch any of his game for the past two seasons,as long as the goalkeeping is concern ,ejide is the best goal keep in Nigeria at present.check on hapoel hadera and confirm …no sentiment he is d best we have for now

  • Una don talk finish?
