Rohr: Eagles Must Be Physically, Technically Fit To Beat Libya

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, says his team must be physically fit and technically sound to beat Libya in Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Akwa Ibom National Stadium Uyo, reports

Rohr admits the Mediterranean Knights are a strong side, but the Super Eagles will prepare for Saturday’s crunch clash like they did against Cameroon last year.

“We have to prepare for the two matches like we did against Cameroon last year,” Rohr was quoted in a tweet on the official Twitter handle of the Super Eagles.

“Focus on Libya’s strong team who had a draw in South Africa and are leaders in our group.”

“Two games in four days means that we have to be very fit physically and technically.”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles are still expecting Odion Ighalo and Brian Idowu in camp.

Rohr’s team returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Seychelles in Victoria in the AFCON qualifier last month after an unimpressive 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where they exited in the group stages.

Pls, someone should tell ighalo to remain in China while he’s still expected. We don’t need him. Chinese goals are fake that’s why he hasn’t been able to score for the national team apart from gifted penalties. This is too bad for a striker. Ighalo, biko, miss ur flight to Nigeria.

Own goal Nigeria just gave us a revelation about Ighalo and to be serious a good coach will not pick him in a good team except if the super eagles is not super as tagged!

  • Mr Rohr, this question is jumping out of my throat. Who is responsible for the physical fitness of the SE? Are you compiling reasons for failure to deliver? Passing the buck?
As for physical fitness, pounded yam, plantain and gym work should do the trick. Only sound results, home and away, against Libya would alleviate our pains from the awful misadventure of the SE in Russia. Good luck.

Ighalo has no place in chan eagles let alone the super eagles. Am usually not in the habit of questioning the selection of any coach but ighalo and onazi get me to my wits end

If the team fails to win these two games against Libya, Rohr should go home. l believe that Ighalo is still in the team today because he has a deep pocket and he is using it . No way another coach will have still be thinking of Ighalo since Watford. Mr. Amrouche, the former Libya coach should be placed on-stand-by in case Nigeria needs a good principled coach in the immediate future.

  • Why are you always pained about this Rohr of a thing? The has not even lost the match besides don’t know what u stand to gain from someone downfall. Every time Rohr must go haba!

I wonder for them ooooo.  The Ighalo everyone is castigating here has equaled his personal best goal record for  season of 20 goal. That 20 goal was scored in English premier league of this world. If this Ighalo has always been a success in club footbal from Udinese of Italy to Granada of Spain and then to Watford of England and now in China.  It then mean that he is not well used in Super Eagle. He is not a lone stiker but does well when he has a stike partner. Super Eagle coaches should use double striker formation whether it is Ighalo or any other striker and how potent our attack will be

What has been Ighalo achievements since he started playing for Nigeria?

He failed Coach Siasia and now Rohr and still, the coach believes he’s the best striker we have right now. Mba, we don’t have a coach.

Ighalo is not a Super Eagles material period. If Success is given a chance on Saturday, he will make a difference. Wether single or double strikers with Ighalo, he can’t score. God bless Nigeria!!!
