Rohr Insists On Strong Super Eagles Squad Vs Algeria

By Bamidele Boluwaji: Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has insisted that the nucleus  of his current squad  will be invited for their last 2018 FIFA World Cup African qualifying Group B away match against Algeria next month, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The former Burkina Faso manager who led Nigeria to beat Zambia 1-0 last Saturday in their matchday-5 to qualify for the Russia 2018  has started discussing his programme for the Algeria match with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye  told Completesportsnigeria.com that the priority of the Franco-German coach now is how to win the away match to finish the qualifiers with 16points.

“We are all happy that we have qualified for the World Cup, but coach Rohr is not resting yet. He has started preparation for the Algeria match and he has insisted that he is going to use the best of his players in the away match,” Ibitoye told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“He has been discussing the next match with the FA, and his priority now despite qualifying for the World Cup, is to win the away match to end the qualifier with 16points.

“I think he believes winning the match will help the bonding in the team and also make the players to prepare for the future.

Nigeria amassed an unassailable 13 points after five games in  Group B.

  • Cameroon will beat Zambia

  • if Brazil could play Neymar and Paulinho against Chile despite having qualified for the world cup months back, i don’t see why we cannot invite our best players to play against Algeria. it will help the team to bond and blend better. More like a friendly though.

  • He can invite most of the main team and try out new players where we are having problems, e.g the attack, left full back.ighalo didn’t play well against Zambia that’s why d match became difficult,if he had converted the chances that poured his way in d first half,Zambians wouldn’t be making noise that they were robbed.for crying out, what is Mikel agu doing in that team,he reminds me of Gabriel Reuben.

  • Pls invite Dessers cyriel.. He is a gud no.9

  • In addition,it will help Nigeria in the likely next FIFA ranking

  • I support the coach. Algeria just sacked their coach. Algeria has only drew one match and loss 4. If they win us it will justify the sacking of the coach which was even overdue. This will be a stain on our record. It will definely dampen our moral. If we win and gather the 16/18 points, it will give us that self belief. It will boost our morale. Brazil showed Chile no mercy. They beat Chile, not even allowing them to score that vital single goal that may have made Chile qualified. So its good the coach had thought about it too.

While I support Rohr’s stance, he should pls play all fringe players he has been inviting to camp but are yet to play for the team. At least, he noticed their competence, that’s why he invited them in the first place. Travelling over thousands of miles only to end up on the bench can be very demoralizing. Their complaints and grievances must have been overshadowed by the performance of those choosen ahead of them, more so, the team is winning. Now is the time to use them because we’ve got what we wanted. If any of them is dropped from the team against Algeria or benched again, there should be a big question on their relevance to the team in the place. John Ogu, Nwakaeme, Tyronne Ebuehi, Chigozie Awaziem, Agbo, Onyekuru, Isaac Success, Ajiboye, Alampasu, and even Ifeanyi Ifeanyi should be given a chance against the Desert Foxes.
