  • We know Moses is injured which explains his obvious omission but what informed the absence of Echiejile from the list?
And for the records, Kenneth Omeruo was never a part of the victorious 2013 under 17 squad. As a matter of fact, he took part in the 2009 silver winning side which Nigeria hosted where Switzerland defeated us in the finals. Then, he partnered skipper Fortune Chukwudi in central defence. Also in that squad were Ogenyi Onazi, Stanley Okoro etc.

    • Politics is creeping in gradually. The coach should watch. Omeruo is not good enogh anymore for supper eagles. I don’t understand Echiejile’s absence.

    • Echiejile was omitted cos of d injury he picked against Zambia. Dey want to give others chance since its a dead rubber game. Let’s nt tink In dt direction yet. Bt I bliv Omeruo shud b in dt squad n nt as standby. He’s most experience in dt defence line aside Echiejile. Experience will tell btw dos oyinbo in w/cup. Let’s wait n see

    • We are on friendly match with Argentina and Russia and for Algerian we have already qualified so coach don’t need all players.he have to try others to see their capacity

    • I wonder o, the deportivo la coruna keeper is not even in the match day squad for tonight against Las palmas. Hope it is not connected to his invitation???

    • christoph 4 years ago

echiejile is also just coming back from injury
so he is not fully fit

    • Echiejele can’t play good football at the moment.
Kenneth Omeruo has picked back form and so he was called up.

    • The writer said 2013 AFCON , Omeruo was part and parcel of that squad.

  • ako amadi 4 years ago

Pity Joel Obi of Torino still not considered. But then only eleven guys can be fielded in any one game, and Nigeria is blessed with gifted players

  • Where is Aron Samuel? This young man is doing well in Russia, playing regularly. Players who can’t start a game in their clubs are called up. Please give Aron samuel a chance for the good of supper eagles and Nigeria.

My brother I don’t know why this tall and aggressive attacker who is at the moment about the best aerial ball scorer is been over looked. Its based on his form in China that he moved to Russia and week in week out doing what he loves and knows best…
Perhaps in fairness, the guy should be given a Chance to prove himself.!

  • I love this list! Thank God no Echiejile!

  • Why didn’t Echiejile make this cut? he may not be the best but he’s an integral part of the Eagles. Ebuehi is too young for d Eagles.

  • Apst. Udo 4 years ago

I am not too comfortable with Mikel Abu, all the same I wish the guys well. Nice squad!! !

  • Chima E Samuels 4 years ago

Joel Obi is sideline on injury, I would have preferred Dele Alampasu and Kelechi Nwakali to Daniel Akpeyi and Chidiebere Nwakali…..

    • He played and scored for Torino on Sunday. Though he is just coming back from injury, so I understand why he was left off

  • Good list. The coach has opportunity now to test new players. He will give some players opportunity to play.

  • Fidelenny 4 years ago

A good squad list for Algeria/Argentina games.I know it would be argued that certain players like Kayode Olanrewaju, Paul Onuachu, Umar Sadiq, Taiwo Awoniyi, Bonaventure Dennis, should be on the list, however not all the players can make the list .

It’s expected that the Algeria should be used to test some new players. I for one would like to see the partnership of Chidozie Awaziam and UCHE Agbo in the central defence, both being aggressive players.
Many also would like to see Ola Aina and Tyrone Ebuehi make their full debut for Nigeria in the wing back positions.

In the midfield, it would be interesting to have a second look at the midfield combo of Etebo Oghenekaro, John Ogu, and Mikel Agu and the quality they possess.

In the attack, , fans would be relieved to see Anthony Nwakeme make his long awaited Super Eagles bow after all the media hype surrounding his great marks in the Isreali league. In the three man attack, it should be a delight to see Ahmed Musa and Onyekuru Henry.

You are correct my brother ..your formation correct finish

      • kingsley 4 years ago

But one more you didn’t say which goal kepper will use in this formation you talk about

    • you people complain too much. too many changes will destabilize the team. the game against Algeria is not just a dead rubber game but a game to prepare for world cup.

Awoniyi is not yet ripe for eagles

  • Samson 4 years ago

I am not satisfy with the
Iist there is no natural number 10, what happened to Micheal babatunde.

  • Fasasi Kunle 4 years ago

Nigerians complain too much. Eleven players play at a time, why all the time complain. Or some people think that every players are good for all position on field. People should know country like Nigeria can more than three best eleven. Some players may not lucky to be part of the team, look at country like brazil and Argentina. Let leave the work for the people in charge (coach) and support whoever is called for the duty and pray for them as well.

    • ako amadi 4 years ago

There are over 60 million football coaches in Nigeria. Every adult male in this country has his own selection, and that’s why Gernot Rohr has a task I do not envy…

  • sanni abdulrahman 4 years ago

nice squad. I believe in rohr

  • Hmmm, I have my doubts about this list, but nice anyway. Would have loved to see Moses at least against Argentina. I hope his absence won’t come to haunt us in that match. That match will be key in the next FIFA ranking, which can determine which pot Nigeria is seeded in the FIFA draw and therefore the teams we’ll play in the group stages at Russia 2018. And Chidiebere Nwakali? Not really impressed. I think his brother, Kelechi is far more complete and talented player. Kdelechi Nwakali, Osimhen and Olarenwaju should have been a part of this group. Someone mentioned Babatunde Michael up there. Come, I go stone somebody here ooo!! Abi you chop stone or grenade? You drink petrol?? Stop mentioning Babatunde Michael and Super Eagles together!!!

  • I still don’t understand why Uche Agbo is classified a defender. He is rather a central midfielder, and that is the position he plays in for his club. He was merely at a time momentarily tested as a central defender by one of the coaches at his former club, Granada.Or,am I getting something wrong here?
That said,I think Kenneth Omeruo should have made the mainstream list and not as a standby player. The Algeria game is a dead-rubber one and other options should have been tried out in the central defence among others.Hence an Awaziem-Omeruo pairing would have been desirable.
Moreover, more options should have been tried out in the midfield as well.Calling up the likes of Ifeanyi Mathew,Anderson Esiti etc wouldn’t have been a bad idea.Joel Obi still has his place in this current Eagles to fight for as well.

  • my only problem with the list is Ahmed musa

  • Don Gerald 4 years ago

Hnmm rohr and hz surprises again lt pray nd support our eagles.

  • I think Rohr is on the right track. He has the core of his world cup team all set up. No need to make huge changes now. All he’s doing is trying out a few players to add up to this amazing team

  • Earon samuel is suppose to b on the list, we need to give him a chance since he is doing well.

  • Not a bad list. No echiejile, no moses, good. Dont worry, this is not the last world cup, later in life osimhen, kelechi nwakali, and the rest may join the eagle squad for games. Strikers like ighalo will b replaced by Osimhen Etc

  • omo9ja 4 years ago

This is an opportunity for Paul U and the Nigerian half cast in Australia to show Coach Rohr what they capable of doing but unfortunately, Coach Rohr did not invited them again. Paul U has everything that Eagles lacking in the team. Eagles was exposed again Zambia. Non of our strikers could brake down the Zambian defense. Thank God that Iwobi was around that day. Coach Rohr, a word is enough for the wise. No sentiment and politics in our football please. Good job so far and the list is not bad but we want a team that can face any team in the world without pressure. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Ruegerson N.K. 4 years ago

Pls lets leave sentiments aside. K. Omeruo ws in the victorious 2013 Afcon squad and was outstanding

    • How many years between 2013 and now? Is it about the past or what you can do at the moment?
Though I think he still deserve a spot in the team(bcos Uche is not a defender) but as the 4th choice behind Balogun, Ekong and Awaziem who are all presently better than him.

  • Abdulmumin andah 4 years ago

I tot with the absence of Victor moses due to injury one of Samuel adegbenro or Samuel kalu should have been able field the wide area…
I don’t know if Rohr is really being following those guys.
I don’t see the need for the invitation of chidiebere nwakali to this squad when Anderson esiti is being regular with kaa gent in Belgium…
I have watched the nwakalis brothers and in my honest mind I think the younger of the two is far better than this one invited.
The team the elder plays for in Norway is even on the verge of relegation and what special magic and wonder has he done to warrant him a call up this time when others are far ahead of him?
I hope Rohr haven’t collected money from allwell nwakali (their eldest brother).
Rohr should watch it because Rome was built many years but It can be demolished just one day…
Samuel adegbenro single handedly took Ajax out of europa league with his sublime skills, pace and well-taken three goals and his club (Rosenberg) is topping the Norwegian league with 8points clear of molde.
That guy has almost same quality with Victor moses.
Rohr should invite players needed to fortifying the team not the players he likes.
I wish Nigeria all the best in those two matches and I hope chidiebere nwakali shall prove me wrong if he gets to play in those matches….

    • God bless you, Abdulmumin, Kelechi Nwakali is far, far better than Chidebere Nwakali. He wasn’t outstanding in the 2013 U-17 FIFA world cup his set with Iheancho won, unlike his brother Kelechi who shone like a milion stars alongside Osimhen and a few others in the 2015 edition. I just hope some big wigs are not beginning to tamper with Rohr’s selection process. The man looks tactically good, but unlike Westerhof who’s tough, he seems quiet and Pinnick and his friends may impose players on him. I think Kayode Olanrewaju too should have been in the main list here.

      • Imagine, I searched for Chidiebere Nwakali video and goals on YouTube and couldn’t see anything, but that of Kelechi was everywhere. Guys, please go and confirm. In fact, just type Nwakali, and only Kelechi Nwakali will pop up in the results, whether Google or YouTube. Please, what’s the rationale for inviting Chidibere Nwakali, ahead of Osimhen, Kelechi Nwakali and Olarenwaju Kayode. Chidiebere played nothing at the U-17 2013 world cup and was always on the bench. The few times they introduced him in the dying minutes, in my opinion, he was just average compared to the other players.

  • Kenneth Omeruo Should be included in this squad he really back to he’s old self and had a very commanding showing in his latest two outings in Turkey. He should be considered

  • emmanuel ajibo 4 years ago

    nice team list

  • Tammy Abraham issue how far?

  • charles emeka okwu 4 years ago

The chidiebere nwakali’s call up doesnt seem ideal to me. I expected ifeanyi mathew who has been more impressive to get a look in but the reverse is the case. Well all the same rohr knows better.

  • Elliot Wilkie 4 years ago

having seen Samuel Adegbenro ,he would have been a good dazzler for the eagles because he Is just like victor moses,we need players like him that can change a game in difficult times.

  • Abdulmumin andah 4 years ago

    God bless you too @kel.
Eliot u sabi watch ball mehn!
That Samuel adegbenro of a guy too good to be abandoned by Rohr not even when victor is out injured!

  • Mr. Jidauna G.G 4 years ago

I believe the coach knows what he is doing… I just pray that players invited will prove themselves against all odds and deliver victory to football loving Nigerian fans. Losing is not an option and can psychologicaly destabilize the team winning mentality… I hope the coach is wherry of that.!

The preparations for Algeria and Argentina double header have commenced in earnest and the NFF and Coaching crew are well on top of their games.
I am convinced that the opinions shared on this platform receive global views, and so whatever is shared, please let it be devoid of sentiments as much as possible. We cannot totally rule that out as humans, but an objective and pragmatic assessment is more realistic and would get the sympathy of the crew.
Every contribution here is a reflection of our thinking as a footballing nation and this has shown how hungry Nigerians have become – waiting and ready to see their players reignite their skills on the big stages of global football.
Our Nff, Sports Ministry, Coaches and players are the main actors. But fans also have a big roll to play by their constant criticisms, suggestions and comments.
It is my candid opinion that in suggesting a player you think should make the cut for the national team you can make extra efforts by investigating them.
The YouTube videos can reveal a player’s current strength. Google out a player’s name on YouTube, add skills and goals to view your player. This way it will be very easy to watch and evaluate your man. The Coaches too can also be convinced a player has what you say he has.
Our current national side brims with talent. One is proud to see how Nigerians have carved their notches in football all around the globe. Nigerian players have become such a big threat to European national soccer associations to the extent that measures are now being taken to screen out players of foreign descent from playing for nations of their birth, especially the Nigerians. Tammy Abraham is a recent scoop by the British FA.
Nigerians can go on to blood more talents beginning from the Algeria dead rubber match.
With the injuries of Moses and Ighalo the Coaching crew can extend calls to new players who have the potentials and quality to add to Super Eagles.
There is a new name on the block, one Paul ‘YEKINI’ Unuachu. This is the new goals king: sharp and consistent goal poacher extra ordinary.
This young man, Unuachu is gangling, strong, energetic and clinical in front of goal. He can score with the head, left and right legs.
Nigerians have waited for over 24 years to find a capable replacement for Rashidi Yekini. Now there is Unuachu, ready to step into those big shoes, and very capable too. See his Videos.
I appeal to the NFF and Coaches to call this young man up and forget about Tammy Abraham.
It will be a great opportunity to see Anthony Nwakaeme, Hapoel to prove himself as a lethal striker in the absence of Ighalo. Nigerians are waiting..
    Good luck..

  • The coach just want to try new players. We have already qualified for the world cup. There is nothing wrong with the selection.
