Rohr To Open World Cup Camp With 35 Players; Says Ezenwa, Ajiboye Look Good For Russia 2018

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja: Super Eagles gaffer, Gernot Rohr, has disclosed that he would open camp in Austria ahead of the  the 2018 World Cup with 35 players , Completesportsnigeria.com reports.‎
Rohr adds that he wants three players for each of  all the outfield positions, and probably four or five goalkeepers. He reiterates  that there are still so much vacant places to fill before his a world Cup squad ‎takes shape.
“The idea is to have three players for every position in camp from where I would probably pick the best two each and three of the five goalkeepers for the World Cup in Russia. Some home based players competing at CHAN  in
Morocco will join the camp because of their good showing so far in the African cup of Nations championship,” the Franco/German coach stated.
“We have set a target to reach the quarter final of the World Cup and for this reason, we have taken only the  best players who are fit and in good form. We have a good program going to Russia with series of friendly games that will put us in shape for the World Cup”
Asked if the form of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Ajiboye at CHAN has solved his goalkeeping problem, Rohr said that he would still have a look at Dan Akpeyi and Vincent Enyeama before submitting final list.
“Akpeyi and Enyeama are still in contention for World Cup places if they are in good health, fitness and good form. But Ezenwa and Dele have been good, and if they continue to improve, we will love that because World Cup is a big stage,” Rohr stated.
He commended the NFF for the way they sorted out the players’ bonuses and allowances adding that this will allow the team to concentrate on the game with assurance that their money is safe.

This Couch could come out to be the best National Couch Nigeria ever had. What a man. The NFF equally too are going to prove the best administrators we ever had.

  • which akpeyi again .. is this coach sleeping?

Both Daniel Akpeyi and Salisu Yusuf has nothing doing in the Super Eagles .Competent replacements should be brought in before the World Cup gets closer . Salisu Yusuf lacks the technicality to work with Gernot Rohr in the Russia .

I watched the Nig v Mor CHAN finals in total shock & disbelief. This is the worst selected Nigerian side, at any levels, I have watched since 1973.
How did the team get to the finals? These are no footballers. If this is the best that could be assembled from the Nigerian league, it is then a disgrace to league management. A disgrace to home based footballers.
The Nigerian Coaches have brought shame to football. Who the Hell is Salisu Yusuf? Where is he from? Is he a Coach or a spectator?
This CHAN Nigerian team must have been representing some other interests other than Nigeria.
The team lacked basic football knowledge; organization was horrible, technics were below par, vision was Zero, and Technical Input was nonexistent.
This is what you get when merit is sacrificed for mediocrity. This is what comes to you when you fail to stamp authority, and move square pegs in square holes.
NFF may lack the courage, if not, they must ensure no single player from CHAN , not even the lack lustre Coach, joins the train to Russia 2018. They do not have any business there. What nonsense!
    Enough of mediocrity!
