Rohr Sad Over Onyekuru’s Injury Situation

By Bamidele Boluwaji: Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, is sad over the injury Nigeria international, Henry Onyekuru suffered while on duty for his Belgian side, Anderlecht, at the weekend, reports

The Everton of England star who is on loan at Anderlecht was stretchered off the pitch in the 78th minute after a collision with Eupen goalkeeper Hendrik Van Crombrugge, which led to a serious injury to the forward.

According to reports, the Super Eagles striker will be out for the rest of the season and this could also prevent him from getting fit in time to fight for a spot in the Nigeria squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Speaking to on Tuesday, Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, said former OG Nice of France coach, Rohr, was sad when he heard about the injury to Onyekuru.

“Rohr was not happy, but we are hoping that he returns before the World Cup. He is a young player and the tendency for him to recover quick is there, so we are praying and hoping he returns in time,” Ibitoye told

According to Ibitoye, both the coach and some top NFF officials have contacted Onyekuru to wish him well.

“Already, we have called to wish him well.” he added.

This is why the net to catch players for the World Cup must be cast wide. For every position there must be at least 3 players ready to come in if the unexpected happens. Nigeria must therefore find 33 top class players in the coming months. Between now and June, anybody can suffer injuries that could keep them out of the tournament. That happens to every country. Look at how we lost Carl Ikeme the goalkeeper!!
