Rohr: Super Eagles Don’t Fear Croatia Stars, All My Players Are Fit

By Nnamdi Ezekute in Russia:

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has admitted that he has total respect for Croatia but claimed his young team will not be overrun by them when both teams meet in their Russia 2018 World Cup Group D clash on Saturday at the Kaliningrad Stadium, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Croats have a number talented individuals in their team with the likes of Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Ivan Perisic, Andrej Kramaric and Mario Mandzukic expected to lead the assault against the Super Eagles.

Nigeria on the other hand will be parading a number a young guns who will be playing at the World Cup for the first time.

“We admire this team (Croatia) but we do not plan to watch them when we play against them, we hope to fight. They are all wonderful players, playing in biggest teams in Europe. On paper with their names, they are much better than us,” Rohr stated while addressing reporters on Wednesday at his team’s training base in Essentuki.

“But sometimes on the pitch, it could be different. We don’t have their big stars, but we try to play collectively with our young team.”

The German coach also provided updates on right-back Tyronne Ebuehi who suffered a nose bleed in Tuesday’s training and also passed a clean bill of health on the other players.

“He’s fit and there are no injury problems in the team,” Rohr stated.

I don’t like the way Gernot Rohr talks. He talks too much. Can’t he keep quiet and use the time to study the Croats and our other opponents? The holy book Bible says in one place that one should be slow to talk but quick to hear.

@djeniko.James chapter 1 vs 19,be slow 2 speak and quick 2 hear.our coach tends to be boastful, which is not 2 good

Is not a must for you to like how he talks.

    We shall see.

  • What is talk too much in the responses above? So the man should have not responded to questions during a mandatory press session? Make una relax small. The coach’s responses are very good. That is how it is done in the professional realm. It is a psychological interaction at this point; respect your opponent but boost the morale of your crew.

    • u can never satisfy Nigerians,u talk problem,u knw talk problem,i just wish some individual can have sense or even borrow sense even if it will last till super eagles finish world cup,i no mind, imagn a coach addresn the press and some one is complaining h talks too much…nawaoooo only God can help us

  • @ Fidel nice response. great wisdom.

The coach has not talked too much and is not talking too much. I wonder why some people do not learn. There are pre-match and post-match press conferences. At times, they are compulsory. The coach must say something. He did not say anything about tactics or praise any of his players or reveal any game plan. Rather, he praised only the Croats. Let people keep their hatred for the coach and be objective. Afterall, you started hating him when he did not select your preferred players. When he was winning, you were hailing him. Whether you like it or not, those 23 players will represent Nigeria in Russia and Gernot Rohr is the coach.

In Nigeria, there is no specialization again, a pastor wants to teach a trained medical doctor his job. People who know nothing about football are critizing Rohr out of ignorance

  • Na wa for niaja people, the humble coach did not say he is going to beat Croatia 3:0.so were is the boast or may be he should become a dummy b/c he is going to w/cup.
