Rohr: Super Eagles Will Score Many Goals At World Cup

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has assured that the lack of goals in the Super Eagles will be resolved before the start of the World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Super Eagles have scored only two goals in their last three friendlies against Poland, Serbia and Democratic Republic of Congo.

“I am not worried that the Super Eagles have not scored much in recent games because I know we have what it takes to score goals and I believe my players will score plenty of goals at the World Cup in Russia,” Rohr told Complete Sports.

Zenith Ziva

“We are working very hard to get our attackers scoring goals again. It is not as if we can’t score goals, it is just that we were trying out new formations and trying out new players in different roles. “Now that we have pruned the team to a manageable size, it is time to perfect our strategy for the World Cup

“Nigerians should believe in this team to deliver at the World Cup. By the time we finished playing England and Czech Republic and go into our final camping for the World Cup, all the flaws will be corrected and we are ready to go.”

Nigeria are in the same World Cup group with Croatia, Argentina and Iceland.

Moses Simon has been finally axed from Nigeria’s preliminary World Cup squad after scans conducted in London confirmed that he will be out of action for three weeks.

The Gent winger was at the Hive Stadium on Thursday and underwent a series of scans as his international teammates were sweating it out in their penultimate workout before the friendly against England.

”Simon is finally out of the 2018 World Cup and he is unhappy that he won’t be traveling to Russia with the Super Eagles squad,” a Nigerian Federation insider told allnigeriasoccer.com.

”The scan performed on Thursday confirmed he will be out for three weeks. Simon just left the Super Eagles hotel and said he is going to Belgium.”

There are presently 25 players with the national team in London and coach Gernot Rohr must drop two more players by June 4, 2018.

The Super Eagles will leave their hotel for the Wembley Stadium at 1645 hours for their final workout before the friendly against the Three Lions.

It is Well with Simeon, you will be missed in Russia.

  • this man sounds so confident and calm.. wat is living inside u?
I am hopeful we will do well and I will know by tomorrow

  • Rohr: Super Eagles Will Score Many Goals At World Cup. BIG AMEN!!! to that in Jesus name. But don’t concede sha o!

Elderson Echiejile and/or Ken Omeruo may not make it to Russia. l believe fervently what Rohr is saying that we may score many goals in Russia. Just look at the way our back men are scoring goals . That should tell you that the Couch knows what he is talking about.

  • The last two to drop.the fight z btw Mikel Agu/Jeol Obi, then Elderson Echiejile/olaoluwa Aina….any of the two can go

  • Mostkenny 3 years ago

@ Toby, I think you are correct.

  • Mikel Agu’s seat on the plane to Russia is as sure as Mikel Obi’s…quote me anywhere

  • Samuel victor 3 years ago

Agu and elderson shld be dropped we all know they are not gud enough

  • Ebuehi is prone to injury and Elderson has never been to a world cup too anyways. Because Ola Aina can stand as a back up for both left and right full back positions I think it makes more sense to drop Elderson.

Elderson was at the 2010 WorldCup in South Africa

  • Mikel Agu and Awaziem should be drop

Ebuehi is prone to injury ke!

  • I really hope so, but this is doubtful… USA 94 the super eagles had the fastest attack in the world, we where ranked number 5 on the FIFA ratings, We bagged the most entertaining team at that world cup… well… these things did not just start at the events proper… it was a cumulation of 5years hard work… Thanks to Westerhof and Johannes Bonfre.

Not trying to piss on this parade, but we shouldn’t expect “miracles” from the team as it is. the blessing for us is that the squard is young, the team has a lot of support and goodwill. To get back on track, we must allow this team continue to develop right after the world cup.

One this to note…. I am not a fan of playing friendlies with major power houses just before major tournaments… If the stronger teams beat us, this will affect the player’s moral at the tournament. Friendlies are not about the strength of the opposition, but more about a “relaxed” way to test run your strategies, and alter them as you please.

Westerhof was really good at this… he takes the team to Papendal, a small village, in Holland, camps his team there, and play a series of friendlies with Divison 2,3,4 teams… we usually outscore these teams, but most importantly, that helped increase the confidence of the team, because winning is infectious, it makes the players believe in themselves, the coaches and their tactics. Argentina could have played Belgium, Brazil, Russia, Senegal… instead they chose to play Haiti… WHY?

I was in cloud 9’the minute I heard we are playing England months ago!

    I am happy and excited!
My reason is simply….Super Eagles against 3 Lions at the Wembley Stadium !!!!!!

Are you kidding me! It is like playing Brazil at the 78K Maracanã Arena !!!! It is an exciting experience !!!…both for Fans & Players!!!

Ok…now to our players !…,there is something about each SE player on this game that require a positive output.

    – Coachee Sir Gernot has a difficult choice to drop two more players!
    – some players plying in the Permier league has a point to prove to their respective clubs that their call ups to the SE is not a fluke
    – Some players not yet plying in the premier league might catch some attention from clubs chieftains and coaches that will be watching
    – some players that has left the Premier league might be telling the clubs that didn’t have faith in them to do a re-think !
    – in conclusion, the match will serve our players with a clear baptism of a clique of what to expect in Russia since the English squad are Russian-bound too!!

Well, all in all….my advise to the players is simple…..please play safe and use your team-strength more than the individual-brilliance!
These days matches are win more on team-play!!!

***cant wait to be at the stadium tomorrow, cheering my national Heroes !!!*** we go win !!

  • Mikel Agu, might be in Russia. Echejile and ?
    Or Aina and ?

  • Nicolsen 3 years ago

    @Rohr.. i hope so… lol

  • Ebuehi is our best right full back in dat team. If Mr. Rorh use formation 3-5-2 In our defense Awaziem is the worst defender while Mikel Agu is the worst in midfield. I strongly believe Rorh will drop Awaziem and Agu
