By James Agberebi: Holders Real Madrid defended their FIFA Club World Cup title after edging out Brazilian club Gremio 1-0 in Saturday’s final in the United Arab Emirates.
The hero for Madrid was Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo whose 53rd minute goal was enough to clinch the title for Madrid.
Ronaldo’s goal took his tally in the FIFA Club World Cup to seven, the most by any player in the competition.
Madrid are now the first team to win the FIFA Club World Cup back-to-back since its inception in 2000.
They are also the most successful team of the competition after winning it three times (won it previously in 2014 and 2016).
Spanish giants Barcelona (2009, 2015) and Corinthians (2000, 2012) of Brazil have both won the competition two times.
