Ronaldo Fit For City Clash, Zidane Expects Tough Tie

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane expects Cristiano Ronaldo to be fit for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium as he seeks to secure a first leg win.

Madrid will be appearing in their fifth straight semi-final, while City are making their first appearance.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Zidane however pointed out that it will be a difficult game for Madrid.

"I think it’s a 50/50 game to each team. Our plan is to go out, to try and score and to win. That’s always our mentality," Zidane said.

“The opponent is a great side – if you leave City space they can hurt you. The players get between the lines and cause you problems.

"We’ll do the best we possibly can here. City will put us under pressure and make things hard for us – we’re ready for that."

The former France international, hinted that Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema could feature against City despite suffering knocks.

“The idea is that we want them [Ronaldo and Benzema] to play. I think they’ll be fine but we’ll test. I think they'll play."

On his part, Gareth Bale, who scored a brace in Madrid's 3-2 win against Rayo Vallecano at the weekend, expressed hope that Madrid emerge victorious against City.

“We’ve had not a great performance at Wolfsburg but it’s something we’ve learned from. We go into the game confident, trying to win.

"It’s good to be back in England. We know it’s going to be difficult but it will be an exciting game for everyone to watch.

"First legs are always a bit tense and cagey but we'll give our best and hopefully we'll win.

“If anything, I’m surprised City didn’t get here earlier. They've progressed and have become a force in the Premier League."
