Cristiano Ronaldo reached a milestone on Saturday night as European champions Portugal spanked visiting Hungary 3-0 in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying Group B encounter.
Andre Silva put Portugal 1-0 ahead before Ronaldo doubled their lead on 36 minutes.
Ronaldo got his second goal in the 65th minute to take his Portugal tally to 70 in 137 games.
Portugal move on to 12 points, three points adrift of leaders Switzerland.
France reclaimed top spot in Group A following their 3-1 away win against Luxembourg in Saturday’s 2018 European World Cup qualifier.
Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud bagged a brace in the 28th and 77th minutes, while Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann converted a 37th minute penalty.
Aurelien Joachim scored Luxembourg’s goal in the 34th minute from the penalty spot.
France extend their lead in the group to 13 points, three points ahead of second-placed Sweden who had thrashed Belarus 4-0 to temporarily go top in Group A.
Also in Group A, Bulgaria playing at home stunned the Netherlands 2-0.
Spav Delev scored in the fifth and 20th minutes to move Bulgaria to third on nine points, while the Netherlands dropped to the fourth position.
In Group H, a late Romelu Lukaku goal salvaged a 1-1 home draw against 10-man Greece.
Konstantinos Mitroglou gave Greece the lead on 46 minutes before they went a man down following Panagiotis Tachtsidis’ sending off on 65 minutes.
Lukaku equalised in the 89th minute to snatch a late draw for Belgium.
Belgium remain top of Group H on 13 points, three ahead of second-placed Greece who are on 11 points.
