England Test captain Joe Root will make his Big Bash League debut on Friday for Sydney Thunder in Canberra. The 27-year-old will take on Melbourne Stars in the contest and he will be joined in the Thunder team by England vice-captain Jos Buttler.

However, the duo will not come up against fellow Englishman Liam Plunkett, with the Surrey bowler not available for the first half of the tournament.
Root has played in 61 Twenty20 matches so far, scoring eight fifties with an average of 32.
In T20 internationals he averages 35, with 787 runs from 26 innings.
