By Johnny Edward: Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru was the match winner for Anderlecht who defeated Lokeren 2-1 in a Belgian top flight clash on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Onyekuru scored in the 52nd minute to hand his side their 10th league win of the season. The Nigerian striker is Anderlecht’s top scorer in the Belgian top division with eight league goals in 17 appearances this season.
Also in Belgium, Taiwo Awoniyi played all 90 minutes but failed to score in his third straight game for Royal Excel Mouscron who were forced to a 1-1 draw at home to St.Truiden. Awoniyi has scored four goals in 14 league games.
In Egypt, Junior Ajayi scored his second league goal of the season for Al Ahly in their 4-1 home win over ENPPI. Ajayi has made six appearances, providing four assists for the Egyptian champions so far this season in the Egyptian league.
In the English Premier League, Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi made his 15th consecutive start for Leicester City who recorded a 1-0 win over Burnley at the King Power Stadium.The game was Ndidi’s 32nd EPL start for the club since he joined last January from Genk.
Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was an unused substitute in the encounter. Iheanacho has made nine appearances (two starts and seven as substitute) for the Foxes this season. Ahmed Musa on his part was left out of Leicester City’s match day squad. Musa who is poised to leave the club in January has not featured in the EPL this season for Leicester City.
At Stamford Bridge, Victor Moses made a sterling return to the starting line-up of Chelsea for the first time since their defeat at Crystal Palace in mid-October as the Blues fought back from a goal down to beat Newcastle United 3-1.
The Nigerian international provided an assist for Alvaro Morata to double his side’s lead. Aftdrwards, a burst down the right flank saw Moses win a penalty for Chelsea after he was clipped in box by Matt Ritchie.
Moses has now made eight EPL appearances (seven starts and one substitute appearance) for the Blues this season.
At the Emirates Stadium, Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi made his eighth English Premier League appearance (his third substitute appearance) of the season in Arsenal’s 3-1 home defeat to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. Iwobi replaced the injured Shkodran Mustafi in the 15th minute as Arsenal’s 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions ended.
In the English Championship, Sone Aluko made his 12th start for Reading who defeated 10-man Sunderland 3-1. Aluko who has scored twice this season was yellow carded in the 43rd minute.
At the Hillsborough Stadium, Nigeria defender Ola Aina was an unused substitute for Hull City in their 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday. Aina has played 15 starts for the Tigers this season.
In Italy, Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi received his third yellow card of the season in his seventh Serie A start for Torino who drew 1-1 at home to Atalanta. He was taken off for Lucas Boye in the 73rd minute.
In Germany, the recovering Leon Balogun was left out of Mainz 05’s squad as they dropped to 13th in the Bundesliga table after their 3-1 loss at home to Augsburg. Balogun, who has battled with injuries, has made only four appearances in 14 Bundesliga games this season.
In Spain, Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was left out of Deportivo La Coruna’s match day squad for the sixth game running in LaLiga following in their 2-0 defeat to Sevilla on Saturday. Uzoho has made two LaLiga starts this season.
In Norway, Chidiebere Nwakali was benched in Sogndal’s 5-4 loss in a penalty shootout to Ranheim after aggregate scores were level at 1-1 in the Norwegian promotional playoff game. Nwakali scored four goals in 26 league appearances for Sogndal in the Norwegian top division.
In Hungary, Ezekiel Henty came on for Krisztian Geresi in the 51st minute of Videoton FC’s 3-1 loss away to Ferencvaros.
