William Troost Ekong played all 90 minutes for Udinese who lost 1-0 to Inter Milan in a Serie A game on Saturday. The game was Ekong’s 16th start of the season since he joined Udinese.
Ola Aina starred for Torino in Saturday’s Turin derby which they lost 1-0 to city rivals Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the encounter in the 70th minute from the spot.
In England, Semi Ajayi made his 24th start in the English Championship for Rotherham United’s 1-1 draw against Reading.
Also in Turkey, Henry Onyekuru was missing in action for Galatasaraywho played out a 1-1 draw away at Istanbul Basaksehir.
The 21-year-old has scored four league goals in 14 league game.In the English Premier League, Super Eagles pair of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi made their ninth and 16th start of the season for Leicester City who lost 1-0 away to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
While Iheanacho came on for Demarai Gray in the 73rd minute, Ndidi played the entire duration of the defeat which denied the Foxes a seventh English Premier League win of the season.

  • Kenneth Omeruo, who helped his club to keep a clean sheet and claim a point against the Celta Vigo on Friday, is the highest rated Super Eagles defender from a sample of 4 I collated this weekend: Ekong, Ajayi, Omeruo and Aina.

    1) The former U-17 International increased his last week’s rating of 6.44 by 0.8 to clock an impressive 7.24 as one of the highest rated defenders in the match. Omeruo played 90 minutes.

    2) He is closely followed by Semi Ajayi who also played 90 minutes for his team and was rated 7.1 in the English tier 2. Semi also improved on last weekend’s performance which he was rated 6.59.

    3) Having also played 90 minutes in the defensive oriented Italian league, Troost Ekong, whose side failed to live up to expectations at San Siro, with a poor miss from Icardi seemingly summing up a dismal performance, was rated 6.66; a drop in last weekend’s rating of 6.74.

    4) Wingback Aina, who has settled fantastically well in Italy, played 85 minutes and rated 6.16, a drop from his last weekend’s stellar rating of 7.39.

For me, Ola Aina is yet to pull down trees in Super Eagles colours. Perhaps Rohr should take a cue from the sort of philosophy that brings out the beast that we see in Torino colours.
