By Johnny Edward:
Nigerian striker, Stephen Odey scored his eighth Swiss league goal of the season in FC Zurich 3-2 away loss to St. Gallen at the Kybunpark on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The former MFM striker also bagged an assist in the encounter. Odey has made 12 Swiss League games appearances this term.
FC Zurich are in the fourth position on the log with 17 points in 12 games. Odey will hope to maintain a top form through the season and help his side vie for the title.
In the Swedish second division, Chisom Egbuchulam scored twice for Falkenbergs FF who defeated IFK Vaernamo 3-0.
The brace took Egbuchulam’s tally to 13 league goals in 23 games.
Francis Uzoho made his second start in the La Liga Segunda for Elche who edged Real Zaragoza 2-0.
The Nigerian international made a crucial save in the 87th minute of the game to secure Elche a third win of the season.
In the French Ligue 1, Samuel Kalu played all 90 minutes for Bordeaux who lost 1-0 to Nice at home.
The pair of Umar Sadiq and Ovie Ejiara both started in Rangers 1-0 loss away to Aberdeen. The Nigerian born stars were both cautioned in the defeat.
William Troost Ekong played all 90 minutes for Udinese who forced Genoa to 2-2 draw in a Serie A Clash on Sunday.
The game was his ninth of the season.

What a wonderful weekend for Super Eagles and Nigerian players this weekend has been. Both current Super Eagles and future Eagles who are knocking hard to join the team.
With Isaac Success, Ndidi, Mikel, Osimen, Odey and Chisom Egbuchulam banging in goals for their respective clubs, then the future is really bright. Not to mention others like Uzoho, Iwobi, Kelechi, Ekong, Omeruo, Kalu who played major roles in their clubs over the weekend.
Another good sign is that we are beginning to have several players that can become clinical finishers in the mould of the late Reshidi Yekini. So we don’t need to over depend on Ighalo.
If you doubt me check these stats: Victor Osimen 7 goals in 7games, Odey (former NPFL top scorer) 8 goals in 12 games in Swizz league, Chisom Egbuchulam (former NPFL top scorer) 13 goals in 23 games, not to talk of Isaac Success that rediscovered his scoring boot. So there is really enough materials for coach Genet Rohr to work with and win Afcon 2019, if he knows how to use these talents at his disposal. I am excited about future. Fly Super Eagles.
Man of the match performances this week for Uzoho, Ola Aina and David Nwolokor goal keeper of Slovakian Premier league side Served.
Goals for Ndidi, Mikel Obi, Success, Ighalo of the super eagles. Also two for Iyayi Believe (HNK Gorica), Odey, Osimhen. Plus Ifeanyi Matthew.
Assist for Samuel Chukwueze And Odey. 4 shots on target for Bonaventure of Brugge in champions League against Monaco.
All Rohr had to do is pick players on form and play them in position. We have options as many of our players are coming to great form now. We have options all over the field:
Uzoho
Nwolokor
S Eze
Omeruo
Troost
Ajayi
Aina
Collins
M Mohammed
Idowu
Mikel
Onazi
Mikel Agu
Anderson Esiti
Iwobi
Ejaria
Atiemwen
Musa
Kalu
Bonaventure
Eduok
Odey
Osimhen
Ighalo
Success
Otubanjo
All played over 80 or 90 minutes in league, champions League, Europa League this week.
Etebo, Onyekuru, Simon, Shehu will not be missed if they are not fit November as we have adequate cover.
Add on Uche Agbo, Alhassan Ibrahim, Igbekeme who played up to 45 minutes and Chukwueze who gave an assist in only 20 minutes playing attacking midfielder for Villarreal and we have strength in depth as well (squad and bench).
23 from the 30 above and we are good
Slovakian Premier league side Sered
This is the kind of pleasant selection headache I always wish our national coaches have. Unfortunately, truth is realistically, he cant invite every jack and harry at the moment. He can only invite a max of 4 new players at this time, because it really takes time trying to blend in new players without distorting the chemistry of the existing team…..unless there’s something like a friendly mini-tournament where he can tryout an entire 18 or 21 man team of new faces, a proposition which is quite unlikely in the nearest future given that it is always impossible to secure the release of players for matches or tourneys outside the fifa windows.
This indeed is an interesting time to be a super eagles coach
Yes, if I were to stick my neck out, I’d say Nwolokor at the expense of Ezenwa or Akpeyi, Eze to bolster competition at the back, Odey to further push Ighalo and Success and either Bonaventure or Eduok for right wing to challenge Kalu.
Keep two as squad players and maybe two on the bench for the SA game and then field all four (two start two sub) for the friendly against Uganda 3 days after the competitive game
This is bad news for some people o. Really bad news…Uzoho getting another consecutive start and clean sheet (just as i predicted last week) and Ighalo scoring his 21st league goal again – 2nd time he’s scoring over 20 goals in one season in his pro-career. God why…..??? This is really heart breaking news for them.
The name Francis Uzoho is beginning to become synonymous with clean sheets…!!!
Clean sheets in 42% of his Intl matches, 50% clean sheets in laliga, 60% clean sheets in segunda B liga, 100% clean sheets in Segunda liga…..all happening only at 20 years of age. You can verify via the link below
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/francis-uzoho/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/295360.
Let bad belle people go and bring their lev yashin that will come and chase him out of the national team.
Who are these bad belle people?
Dem full everywhere…..dem know demself. make god deliver us from their hands. Just wait till the day Francis “Cleansheets” Uzoho has a bad day in office and you will see them crawling out of their holes.
Xxx
Stephen Odey is having a good run of form. After a slow start to life in Europe just over a year ago he has started showing glimpses of his exploits in the domestic league prior to moving to European football.
The positives about his impressive showing so far is it will swell the numbers of attackers available for selection by Gernot Rohr. The Swiss league interestingly has produced world class players like Mohammed Salah.Murphy Akanji of Dortmund,Arsenal’s lichsteiner and El neny respectively at some point in their career played in the Swiss league and hope our own Odey follow similar pattern and become a great player.
Meanwhile Uzoho at just 20 has achieved a lot.Won the fifa cadet world cup at just 15 and in a couple of years was playing in the la liga and a year later was at the fifa world cup as first choice goalkeeper.Unbelievable success.
We expect Uzoho to maintain his form to feature regularly for club and country. With hardwork and discipline he is sure to be one of the best in world football and Nigeria would profit from a goalkeeper who will guarantee at least 13 yrs of service to the national team.
God bless Nigeria!
This is why I will forever prefer a foreign coach to a local coach anytime. The truth is good players regress in the NPFL. Now Odey is turning heads in the Swiss league and I’m sure he will soon get another chance to stake a claim in the SuperEagles strike force, Alhassan Ibrahim is doing well in Portugal, Eze is a regular in Bulgaria. At a time they all played for the SuperEagles under Rohr Compare to Keshi’s home base from Agbim, Mba to Ejike Uzoenyi and co. We failed to qualify for two consecutive AFCONS as they could not progress beyond their abilities.
The only thing that knocked the young SuperEagles from seconds to reaching the knockout stage of the WorldCup was lack of experience and mental toughness which I’m certain was due to our inability to feature at the last two AFCONS. Now the gaffer came in and qualified us for two consecutive major tournaments. Yet some lowlifers will come here and spew rubbish about the gaffer.
Watch out for my SuperEagles at the AFCON next year. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE# SUPEREAGLES ON THE HORIZON.
Who are you calling low-life? You better respect yourself and respect your elders?
Just because we are wealthy and wise does not mean you have to be jealous.
Even James Peters and Christian Chukwu are better than the your Rohr. What are you talking.
That is why I am in love with Dr Drey,he would never have come out with such abomination.
Please, respect yourself.
Certainly good news for the SE and Rohr. Nigerian football exports are sizzling in different top European leagues and competition for every spot is getting pleasantly too hot to handle for the gaffers for every position (except the goalkeepers), right from the senior team to the U-23 and U-20 who should benefit too from the sudden glut of real talent options.
But I need to point out it’s time Roh drops the current backups to Uzoho for more consistent and convincing performers. This will push Uzoho even more to up his game. Akpeyi and Ezenwa don’t cut it. I find it hard to get his howlers against SA in June 2017 out of my head and even up till now, I don’t think he’s regarded highly in the SA League and is still shipping in cheap goals. Seeing him in post back then boosted SA players’ confidence as they knew all his weaknesses. Ezenwa too has been inactive for long, even Abdallah Enyimba coach relegated him to the bench. It’s time to search for quality backups in the goalkeeping dept; God forbid, Uzoho gets injured or suspended for a crucial match.
The list is out for the SA match. Mikel and Onazi out. Agu gets a recall. Chukwueze gets maiden SuperEagles call up. Osimhen returns. I love this gaffer he’s such a brave coach given youngsters every deserving chance. Although I would’ve prefer Eze to Adeleye Aniyikaye, but The dude is also a good defender.
Unfortunately Akpeyi and Ezenwa retain their back place. Anyway all we need is just a draw in the next two games and we’re already in the next AFCON.
I think the reason why he invited Adeleye was because of the clamour from some Nigerians to invite Home based players and he did. Coach Gernot Rohr is just Superb for me
