Jason Roy has revealed he has ambitions of one day playing for the England Test team. The 28-year-old currently opens the batting for the England one-day international and Twenty20 teams, but he has never been handed an opportunity in the longest format of the game.
The opener only made two appearances for Surrey in the County Championship this season but will get an opportunity to showcase his Test credentials as he will form part of the England Lions team that will face Pakistan A in a four-day match in the United Arab Emirates next month.
Roy is hoping he can demonstrate what he is all about during that match although he acknowledges he may have to wait before he is considered for Joe Root’s team.
“It has always been an ambition and dream of mine to play Test cricket, but I have just got to bide my time and wait in the wings and see what happens,” Roy told Sky Sports.
“(Going to Dubai) is a good opportunity to get some red-ball stuff under my belt in case that call comes.”
The retirement of Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings’ struggles with the bat means there are openings at the top of the England order.
Roy believes he has to prove his defensive capabilities to eventually stake his claim, but he does not want to adjust his style too much as he has enjoyed success in the shorter formats of the game.
He added: “I think it is just a case of fine-tuning, my defensive game is in order, that is not an issue. I do not want to change too much from my white ball to red ball.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
