Rubi says he has been encouraged by what he has seen so far from his Espanyol players. Los Periquitos have been treading water in recent years, and, after an uncertain spell under Quique Sanchez Flores, appointed Rubi.
The 48-year-old came in fresh from guiding Huesca to promotion from Segunda and has made a bright start, taking four points from their opening three games.
Despite a defeat to Alaves in their last game, the coach says he has been pleased with how his squad have responded to his approach and feels the early signs are good for the Catalans.
“We are quite satisfied with how the players have received the ideas and how they apply them to training and games,” he told Marca. “I think the block has started with a very clear idea and identity.
“Although it is also true that this week we lost against Alaves, and that I would like to have some more point. But this is football and in general I am very satisfied with how we started.”
