Brighton Under-23 coach Simon Rusk has praised his squad despite falling to a 2-1 defeat in the Checkatrade Trophy. The young Seagulls kicked off their Trophy campaign away at League One Luton but were unable to make a winning start.
Aaron Jarvis and Jorge Grant put the hosts into a commanding position with just 10 minutes left to play at Kenilworth Road.
Brighton’s Aaron Connolly, who now has four goals for the season, did pull one back with five minutes remaining but the south-coast club were unable to find an equaliser.
Rusk is hoping to take his young troops far in the competition this term and insists he was pleased with their overall performance.
“It was a great test and we faced a very experienced Luton Town side tonight. We’re not making excuses but we’re a little bit young on the night, because of players being away, and I thought we gave our all,” Rusk told the club’s official website.
“We did superbly to stay in the game because their side has plenty of Football League experience – the key was staying in the game and credit to the players for doing that.
“We scored a great goal and kept going so I have no problem with the commitment the players showed this evening and we’ll take a lot from it.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
