Russia 2018: Echiejile Not Afraid Of Ghana, Cameroon, CIV

By Bamidele Boluwaji:

AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile has declared his readiness for the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier which is scheduled for next year.

Echiejile who saw few minutes’ action in the 2-0 win over Swaziland in the second leg match played in Port Harcourt on Tuesday believes that the team will be well prepared to face any opponent.

When asked if he would love to have the likes of Ghana, Cameroon, Morocco and CIV in the Super Eagles’ final qualifying group, the former FC Braga defender said none of the four countries scares him but insisted that the 2013 AFCON champions must work really hard to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

“We are not scared of any team; it is a game of football and we will be ready to face any country we find in our group,” Echiejile told Complete Sports.

Reacting to the team’s performance against Swaziland, Echiejile said the Port Harcourt match was difficult for the Super Eagles but happy they came out victorious.

“It was a tough match and you could see yourself but we thank God that we were still able to win the match 2-0. We just need to keep working hard and see how the group stage is going to be. Definitely, we will all be ready for it because we want to go to the World Cup,” he added.

The draw for the group stage of CAF qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup will take place in Cairo on 24 June 2016, FIFA announced on their official website on Friday.

Twenty nations have sealed their place for this third and final qualifying round, including Africa’s representatives at Brazil 2014 and South Africa 2010, Algeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria.
