By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo is confident that Nigeria will qualify from Group D where they will face Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in the first round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports

After the draw held in Russia on Friday, the China-based Nigeria international said he was also happy that Nigeria avoided the likes of Brazil and Germany in the first round of the FIFA tournament.

The former Watford of England striker also reckoned that the Super Eagles must work well and prepare very well for the World Cup.

“Let me say that I am happy that we are not going to play Brazil and Germany in the first round of the World Cup. With this draw, we are have a good chance of qualifying from the group,” Ighalo said on SuperSport moments after the draw.

“It is a tough group and we have to work really hard and get our best for the World Cup. Iceland are also a good team. We can’t forget that they defeated England and did very well at the last European Championships. They and Croatia are no pushover.”

The Super Eagles will play Croatia in their first Russia 2018 game on June 16, 2018 at the Kalingrat Stadium.

Nigeria have met Argentina four times at previous World Cups and lost all the games, but they have never met Iceland and Croatia.

We are in Group of we need to prepare well. We should make sure we win our first and second match before anything else.

  • It’s not played by mouth but by legs. Nigeria, be careful how you go about boasting.

Great challenge for the Eagles! In all the 4 previous matches Nigeria played against Argentina, we weren’t pushovers! We are a team to be reckoned with. Argentina are also probably now calling for caution against the Eagles. We just have to put our acts together and be more business-like. This is the World Cup, not secondary school rain-ball!

  • Oh they are already afraid.
