–Ahead of September 5 2015 AFCON qualifier:
Rwanda’s Head Coach Stephen Constantine has said his team is ready to face African Champions Nigeria in the Group stage of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.
Constantine guided the Amavubi to victory over Congo Brazzaville on Saturday in a play-off qualifier played at the Kigali Regional Stadium. After losing 2-0 in the first leg, Michel Ndahinduka and Meddie Kagere ensured the home side won and tied in aggregate 2-2. They won 4-3 in penalty shootouts.
The Rwanda team which last appeared in the 2004 Afcon event now join Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan in Group A for the Group stage of the qualifiers which run from September to November.
Speaking after the win in Kigali, Constantine who has only been with Rwanda’s national side for two months said he is looking forward to facing Nigeria who were at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“Facing the African champions will be great, but we shall prepare well for them and all the other teams we shall face in the group,” added the Briton.
The 51-year old said they will have to prepare well enough and also have several friendly matches in-order to get the team in the best level to compete well. “Even against Congo we should have won the game early instead of getting into penalties. We need to improve,” he added.
