Sabella: We’re Happy Beating Nigeria Without Much Stress

From Mumini Alao in Port Alegre:

Argentina coach, Alejandro Sabella has described the Albiceleste’s 3-2 win over Nigeria in their last Group F match on Wednesday as a pleasant victory without much difficulty.

The former world champions completed a treble win to top Group F, and will square up with Group E’s second placed team in São Paulo in the Round of 16.

“We are happy with the victory. We didn’t suffer too much in this game because Nigeria allow you to play with the ball,” Sabella savours Argentina’s third consecutive victory in Brazil.

“We had lots of possibilities and opportunities to score many goals, so I’m happy we scored three goals.

“I’m not too worried by Nigeria’s two goals against our defence. They have very fast players and they took advantage of their few opportunities. But overall, I think we had an improved performance. They appeared to press us more on the second half because they were desperate to equalize, but we kept things under control.”

Sabella also explains the substitution of his talismanic striker and captain after scoring a brace against the Super Eagles.

“We agreed with Lionel Messi before the match that he would be substituted. He is our best player, and we needed to rest him for the next round,” he states.

Nigeria vs Argentina match will definitely leave to its billing, as this match will serve as the most entertaining match of the group F. I’ll expect and also advice Coach Keshi, to field three minded defensive midfielder in the form of Mikel, Onazi and Azeez to form a defensive trojans and sock whatsoever the like of Messi, Aguro and Di maria throw at them and also the back four most be alert, vigilant and on their toes to avoid any player running behind dem for a through and one-two passes.

Our tactics and game of plan should be base on counter attacks(4-3-2-1), as any plan to play free attacking football will be punished against the star studded albiceleste. I expect the argentines to play 4-3-3 formation(Attack Minded) with their two full back supporting the attack and this is where our attackers/wingers comes in. Our front three selection should be base on pace, power, trickery and speed, which anyone of Musa, Moses, Emenike and Peter are capable of. Emenike in particular can expose the right wing which will be cover by ROJO and I believe he can always by pass him just the same way he does to spahic of Bosnia. So having said all this, the other thing will now rest on our fielded players as they have to be 100% focus, alert and discipline, if they could do all these with luck on our side, we are as good as not even making the next round, but also beating the Argentines. I wish them best of luck… Up Eagles! Up Nigeria!! Up completespot!!!
